Medicore Food - Mislabeled Prices on the Menu
The food here was underwhelming. Guac was good but my carnitas tacos were 50% gristle. The big complaint is that when the bill came, everything was $2-3 more than what it was on the menu. I pointed this out to the waiter and he very quickly and dismissively said that the menus we had were old and the owner would not print new ones, and that's why the prices were wrong. But because the new prices were in the computer system there was nothing he could do about it. Um, excuse me? That added about $15 to the tab and you knew that beforehand? Having old menus is one thing. Knowing the prices are incorrect and not informing the patrons? That's not just annoying, that's illegal. Suffice it to say I will never return, and will tell all my friends to stay away as well.

Solid Restaurant
I was never a big fan of Union Smith Cafe so I was very excited to hear of this new restaurant, especially a Mexican place. Overall it's just a good restaurant. The guacamole was fresh and yummy, the staff was friendly, great spicy margaritas and everyone enjoyed their meal. The stand out dish is definitely the mahi mahi tacos, which were delicious!

Best Mexican in the hood
I love Diego it is my favorite Mexican place in the 'hood. Please order the guacamole its delicious and the chicken quesadilla is the best I have had in a long time. Weekends are usually very packed, so it best to go during the week.

Excellent
I started with the Classic Marg and it was 16oz 'til 7 and perfect. The cheese fondue was unusual and very good. The red snapper cerviche was spicier than I prefer; but jalapenos were the first ingredient mentioned on the menu. The flan was top notch. Service was attentive. I look forward to going back.

Mex in the hood!
Yay! Sometimes heading all the way to Pacifico can be a little much, especially in this weather (especially heading back :::hic:::) No more! Since Ive worked in the biz for quite a while I know going to a place right after they open, let alone the day of (brklyngal?!), you have to be a little forgiving. Finally gave it a whirl and was far from disappointed. Granted, we dipped our toes, ordering the guacamole (perfect) and the nachos (different but daaaang good) and threw back two or three of the spicy ritas (really good) fresh fresh fresh ingredients! I'm very happy this place has settled so near. If they would consider opening earlier on the weekends, that would be sweet. God help us, come summertime!

Disappointed
I live in Cobble Hill and was so excited when I head Diego's was opening. An upscale Mexican restaurant would have been such a great addition to the restaurants on Smith street. My husband and I had dinner there this past weekend and were so disappointed. The restaurant looked practically the same as the last restaurant that used to be in the space which was mediocre at best. And the tables were arranged in such an awkward way that where we were seated we felt uncomfortable the entire time. The service was terrible. The waitstaff refused to take any of our empty dishes until I asked when they were piling up and later took dishes that were still filled with food without us telling them we were finished. We ordered the guacamole which was made with very underripe, hard avocados and then tacos which were incredibly bland. The fish tacos literally just consisted of a piece of bland fish sprinkled with red pepper and the pinto beans had no flavoring at all and could really use salt. I agree with the other reviewer and would say the magaritas were great, but that's about it.
