questionable
I visited this diner and lemme tell you, disappointing. The waitress was very cold, the food wasn't that great and the ambiance was a little more then lacking... I don't know a soul who would have wanted to overlook a crowded, dusty, uninviting jewlery store while eating lukewarm pancakes and a tuna sandwhich my 3 year old cousin could have made. Don't be coaxed into eating here by the reviews below. If you'd like an actual glass rather than a dixie cup and wish to escape a less than comfortable interegation post-meal, steer clear of this faux-gem.

would not reccomend
I took all of the previous reviews for this diner into consideration and thought 'hey sounds like a great place for me and my co-workers to try.' However, once we entered the barren diner I asked if they wanted to leave. We decided to stick it out and it was not a pleasurable experience. I would not ever go back and I felt embarassed for taking people from work there.

Wish i found it sooner
This picturesque little dinner sitting atop a bustling jewelry store is my favorite lunch spot in manhattan. Diamond offers an extensive menu of your favorite breakfast and lunch choices. You can choose to eat your delicious and very reasonably priced food at a table or at the bar. The service provided by the very friendly waitresses truly adds to the vintage diner experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and the grilled cheese.

Hidden gem (no pun intended)
If you love real kosher, vegetarian cuisine, this place is the best. Hidden in the back of a jewelry exchange, you literally look out at millions of dollars of jewelry, but the real jewel is the cooking. The cheese blintzes were excellent (go for 3, they're not that big), and the gefilte fish was the best I have ever had. The cold borscht was also excellent. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. And the prices are a steal (not like the jewelry down below).

Blintzes to die for
Finally a place where you don't have to settle for frozen blintzes. The blintzes are light, not greasy and delicious. The veggie soup is also very good, but could use a few more varieties of veggies to make it superb. The place is like going back in time -- just wonderful. The restaurant has huge windows overlooking the jewelery booths below. So when you're finished feasting, just walk down the stairs and pick up some diamonds.

Great value; great food
We were there for breakfast in Feb. 2007. For $3 (really!) you got eggs, home fries, bread, and great coffee. The lunch menu looked good. There have no fresh squeezed orange juice. Entrance is thru the jeweler's exchange. There is no sign for the restaurant on the street, other than the building number. The restaurant is dinner style, with counter and a few tables. Nothing fancy, but clean. We would go back there!

take me back to the 1960s
i love this place. i feel like i'm back in the 70s going to visit my Dad at his booth in the Diamond District and him taking me to lunch at #4. this place hasn't changed a bit since then. the service still feels like lower east side, but the food remains good and cheap. soup is awesome as are the blinzes. thank g-d some things never change. just wish my Dad was still there with me, although my kids will come with me now.
