Pleasantly surprised
I was worried when my friends and I showed up at Diablo Royale for my 21st birthday dinner celebration. The place looked small and crowded and very loud...however, when we arrived the hostess cheerfully sat us at our reserved table for 10. Our waitress served us without any complaints, and although we gave her a complicated order, she didn't mess one thing up. All the food was very good: highlights included the crispy potato appetizers with chipotle mayo, the grilled corn, and the fish tacos. Superb, and not too expensive.

Disappointing Food - But the drinks are supposed to be Ok.
So, the food is lackluster (being nice here). The wait staff is impatient and doesn't let you sit and enjoy your meal (even though there is nothing to enjoy outside of the starter chips). The scene is not that fabulous ... but quite a few people come here for the bar scene apparently ... which too, is not that fabulous. I would keep walking -- and check out another West Village haunt - not worth the time or money! ;-)

Agree with 2nd to last comment
I agree with Mr. Village Idot in 2nd to last comment. Yummy margs, food not so much. Cool vibe especially in the summer. High prices for what you get. So,,,,Go for drinks not food.

Glad I took a second chance!
I went here with some friends when it first opened and it was just okay. The food tried too hard (upscale Mexican?)and the waitress was one of those I'll-just-sit-in-your-lap-because-we're-best-friends types. Way too familiar! I never went back because she was so nnoying - until brunch last Sunday - and it was great! Delicious huevos rancheros and all you can drink sangria for $18! I'm glad I gave it another try! And no sign of the annoying waitress! Why wait at Extra Virgin for brunch when there's no lines here? Really good.

Drinks, yes. Food? Not so much.
The waitstaff is nice, the place has a cool vibe, and the drinks are great, but god help me, the food is disappointing. For the amount of money a dinner costs at this place, it's just not worth it.

Bad Take-Out
I ordered take out from this restaurant because some friends told me it was good. I'm from Texas, so I know good Mexican food, and this wasn't it. The guacamole was fantastic but everything else was overpriced and overrated. Perhaps it was because I got delivery, but when my food arrived (it took over an hour) it was soggy and almost inedible, complete waste of money.

This is not neighborhood freindly
I think this place is cute and has a fun after work vibe but the food is horribly over-priced for what it is. It would be what you could expect if you were getting tacos from Disneyland inauthentic and very expensive. That being said I'm very picky about Mexican food b/c I am from San Diego. I also think the management has been very rude to some of the locals and I am not inclined to patronize this business. There are plenty of great restaurants with great food and ambiance just around the corner so why settle for mediocre?
