Very impressed
This was one of the best mexican restaurants I've been to in recent memory. First, the food was awesome! Corn app - amazing. Tacos - you get to choose from 6-7 options, the shrimp and fish were shockingly good. Nothing was greesy. The margaritas were good, albeit a bit small and a choice of 15 taquillas to choose from. Great vibe, great spot, great saturday night - I'd highly recommend! And, in the WV so plenty to hit up afterwards.

So much fun....
My husband and I were wandering around the village today trying to find a cozy place to eat...we went finally ended up at Diablo Royale and were very happy with our choice. The service was awesome...the food exactly what we were looking for and the drinks were AWESOME....We enjoyed ourselves so much we are going to make this our standby place..A great laid back place that I think we will come back to again and again. Have been to the top restaurants in the city and it was a great experience. Thanks for making our Valentines day Great!

College Town Atmosphere
A friend highly recommended this restaurant. Upon entering, it was immediately clear that there was a college town atomosphere present. The hostess said we would have a 45 minute wait. She was right on in her estimation. We waited near the door (couldn't possibly make it to the bar) and were able to taken in the antics of the 21-30 age crowd. Loud, a little pushy -- too much to drink. What was comical was watching the large parties pay with multiple credit cards. 6+ piled high for the waitress. I don't EVER recall doing this when I was 25. But the staff was very accommodating. I guess we are out of the loop....we're just a little too mature for this. We sat at a tight yet cozy table and our waitress was lovely as was the hostess. Our food was pretty good. However, a large guacamole was quite small for $14.00 but it was good. Lots of cilantro! Yum! Our Diablo margaritas were a little weak....but tasty. So overall we had a good meal. But clearly if you are under 40....this is not the place for you if it is crowded. PS --- a previous reviewer said the tacos were not very hot....this is true....lukewarm.... I don't think we'll be back....

Down the tubes
Diablo used to be one of my favorite, most reliable places to eat when I was craving Mexican, unfortunately that is no longer. I noticed that the food started becoming not quite as good almost a year ago, but kept giving it chances hoping that their amazing fish tacos and other dishes would return. Last night we went in and ordered the quesedilla for an appetizer and then two grilled fish tacos. The quesedilla was good, nothing spectacular, but good enough. Then about 40 minutes later our entrees finally came. You would think after the long wait they would be essentially perfect, or at least warm, but they weren't. The tacos were mediocre, but luke warm at best and the rice and beans were absolutely cold. It tasted as though our food had just been sitting there and our lazy waitress hadn't found the time to pick them up. We were never checked in with again after we received our meals otherwise we may have complained about the ice age temperature of our rice and beans. It is a sad sad day when you cannot be confident that your canned beans and packaged rice won't be heated in the microwave properly. I am still getting over my feelings of nostalgia for the old Diablo and cannot say at this point whether I will allow my heartstrings to be tugged at by going back again and risking the same poor result.

Pleasantly surprised
I was worried when my friends and I showed up at Diablo Royale for my 21st birthday dinner celebration. The place looked small and crowded and very loud...however, when we arrived the hostess cheerfully sat us at our reserved table for 10. Our waitress served us without any complaints, and although we gave her a complicated order, she didn't mess one thing up. All the food was very good: highlights included the crispy potato appetizers with chipotle mayo, the grilled corn, and the fish tacos. Superb, and not too expensive.

Disappointing Food - But the drinks are supposed to be Ok.
So, the food is lackluster (being nice here). The wait staff is impatient and doesn't let you sit and enjoy your meal (even though there is nothing to enjoy outside of the starter chips). The scene is not that fabulous ... but quite a few people come here for the bar scene apparently ... which too, is not that fabulous. I would keep walking -- and check out another West Village haunt - not worth the time or money! ;-)
