It was all-right..I have had better

The food was not as Authentic as I had thought it would be. It was so expensive that at the end of the meal, I thought it wasn't even worth that money. It is a good/cozy enviornment and the staff people were friendly, but if the food isn't that great, then the staff, and the enviornment doesn't really count..or does it? Overall, the food was not that great...and the prices were even worse..

Amazing, must go! Best Indian restaurant

Have been to Devi twice now and I love the ambiance and the food there. The dishes are unique and delicious. A must try for everyone! You will not be disappointed!

been there twice - it's great

I've been here twice, once with my in-laws and once with my parents and both times we've had great meals, and the atmosphere is great, definitely has a different feel from most Indian restaurants. You can sit upstairs or downstairs, I like the downstairs better because upstairs sort of feels like an afterthought and also when we were there it was incredibly hot up there and we asked to move to the lower level. I think the people who don't like the food at Devi are expecting traditional Indian food, and this food has a bit more American influence. The trio of samosas are great, as is the baby eggplant dish and if you like meat my husband said the lamb chops were some of the best he's ever had. I highly recommend the mango martini to start - it has a bit of cayenne pepper on it which is great.

Dont waste your time and money

Our meal at Devi was one of the worst we have had in the City - and we eat out a lot including at places in the same price range. From the moment we walked in - the whole experience was unprofessional. Despite reservations we were told we had to wait 10-20 minutes ( we waited 20 minutes). The folks at the entrance were engaged in their own converstation with little attention paid to customers coming in. The service was far from desireable - not hospitable in any way. We even were given our check as we were half way through our coffee - even though we had not asked for it , nor were there any people waiting to be seated. It felt like a 'Take out Chinese place. We ordered all their ' Speciality dishes' - the Lamb chops, the prawns and a recommended vegetatian dish . Everything we got was cold ( an Absolute NO NO if you are familiar with Indian meals/ service). The quality of food was just OK. This is place is an embarrassment to Indian food/ hospitality and decor. For a place that charges $25- 30 entrees - I cannot believe this place is still in business for the value(lack of) it provides. We strongly DO NOT recommend this place. Dont waste your money or a nice evening.

    Go elsewhere

In a nutshell, I have eaten at NYCs best dives and "name" restaurants, this will not be one of them. It's trying so hard....and can't compete. The food as someone wrote is very sugary and nothing less then General Tso's..Everything is fried. I felt uncomfortable how dumb the entire staff was. Almost like they opened the restaurant last minute from a task on the Apprentice. The service was really that bad! Will definitely not go back.

    Not Worth the Hype

Not Worth the Hype..The service was very good, the decor is nice but the food was over greased, overcooked and not much of a classy taste I expected. They can learn something from Tabla, if they want to compete in the price range. Even the naan was dry and overcooked and Onion Kulcha last it's taste with too much of butter. Too bad, my wife and I were really looking forward to it.

    Not recommended

Just returned with my sister from Devi. What a bust! The waiter was essentially a used car salesman, hyping every mediocre dish. I started off with the cauliflower, which was actually pretty decent. My sister got the lamb stuffed chicken-- nothing special. The main course, however, was the real disappointment. Two pitiful morsels of lamb with zero flavor arrived sitting on top of a small pile of bland mashed potatoes. My sister got the coconut shrimp curry; it wasn't bad but definitely not worth the price, plus the coconut was non-existent. The naan with onions was the only redeeming factor, but definitely not enough to bring us back. Overall, the prices, even for restaurant week, were astrononomical given the quality of the food.
