Like a sauna
We went here to celebrate a birthday. We were seated in the top part of the restaurant, which felt like it was at least 75 degrees, even though the temperature outside was probably high 50s. Although the decor was very rich and inviting, the atmosphere was sweltering. People at the tables around us asked the waiters to turn down the heat or turn on the AC several times, but without any demonstrable results. I was sweating throughout the meal, and it wasn't because of the spicy food. The food itself was ok. Some dishes were interesting, but overall the food was overpriced. The margarita I had was actually pretty gross, but the beer my companion had was good. I don't think the price was worth it, especially if the meal is so uncomfortable due to the temperature.

Will not be returning here, merely OK
Well I just have to say that while the food was OK, I was expecting much much better for the prices. Amma was much better (I think one of the chefs moved here?). This place started out with a bang but the food has to really come up to a higher level to work in this niche. It doesn't have to be Tabla or anything, but when fried treats like samosas appear to be done hours ago and the sauces were poor, something is systemically wrong. Service was sweet enough, but I won't be back.

OK food, but will not return
Went here today with a friend for lunch. It was restaurant week and we both had the prix fixe menu. Also we ordered Iced tea. We were ased by our server if we would like a refill, and we said yes- twice. And were charged for 6 iced teas. I paid it, but think its very crude to not even hint you would wind up paying $20 for iced tea. That said the food was ok, nothing special and it is not worth returning.

Is this even Indian food?
I went to Devi last night- what a waste of money. I don't mind spending good money on good food, but the food here is what I could get at 6th street. The ambiance is ok , the service good, but the food is boring. They call this haute cuisine I beg to differ. Dialing down the very taste and spice that makes Indian food Indian is not haute cuisine, it's not fusion, it's not eclectic, it's just bland, and it's NOT Indian food. I can't believe this got a Michelin star please don't waste your money - it's not worth it. Seriously if you like Indian food you wont be happy at Devi. On the other hand, if you have no experience with Indian food, or ethnic foods in general then you may like Devi as the flavors are non-existent.
