A cut above
I’m usually apprehensive about certain restaurants that combine "haute" with anything else but "French" but this one really lives up to its promises. The fish was expertly prepared, and nothing ambitious or dull. Fine atmosphere, prompt service, and the price was very reasonable. OH! made all the better by our handy dandy Diners Deck. Have you guys heard of these? My wife and I got the Manhattan and Brooklyn/Downtown decks this Christmas and have been the best little things ever. You can get $10 off at 52 restaurants around Manhattan (and Bklyn) and it solves the ubiquitous question “Where should we eat tonight?” So glad this restaurant was in the deck. We’ll be back to Devi.

hit or miss
I had a pretty good experience with Devi, although the food was hit-or-miss. The space is lovely, and the service is excellent. I like that you can order two courses, three, or four courses at a set price. The cocktails were terrific and different. First we were brought a cute, tasty little amuse bouche. I started with the frito misto which was really outstanding. It had shrimp, calamari, and bell peppers fried in a spicy, crispy batter. My friend's Fattouch salad was just OK...a little salty for my taste. The chicken curry was also oversalted, but otherwise was tasty. The saag paneer was also good, but not spectacular. My fish dish, however, was fantastic! The fish was moist and perfectly cooked. The sauce was really unique--it was an interesting take on a traditional tamarind-based soup normally served over rice. The fish was served atop a chunky, slightly sweet butternut squash preparation--its sweetness set off the spicy sauce really well! All in all, we found that the fusion-y and non-traditional dishes were the best, and worth the money. But for regular Indian food, I'd probably go someplace else.

Truly Fabulous Indian food (and spicy!)
I went to Devi after hearing some good reviews. The price is high for Indian food, but compared to a similar level for other cuisines, it's a downright bargain. The appetizers were good, but not mind-boggling. The meals, on the other hand, changed the way I think about Indian food. I've traveled across the subcontinent and the only comparable dishes I've had were in five-star restaurants and Deli (and perhaps one particular street vendor in Lahore). The food was also pretty spicy, which I greatly appreciate. If you're a bit sensitive to spice, don't be scared away, just order some of their excellent raita (yogurt). In short, it's not for the everyday, but for a special occasion, I would highly recommend Devi.

Great experience
I thought the service was great. The waiters were attentive and the food came promptly. We ordered the mutter appetizers and entrees, mainly vegetarian ones with a few non-veg. Everything was excellent. There were 5 of us, without drinks, which were provided complimentary due to a short delay in seating us after our reservation time and the bill came to $160.

Fantastic!
I picked this place for my pop to take me, my girlfriend and my best friend out to dinner while he was in town for the night. It was an awesome meal! The matre'd helped us with suggestions for what we should get and everything as on point! The presentation of the dishes were beautiful, it has very nice cozy decor, and smells great! The servers were attentive as well....Highlights were the sweet and sour baby eggplant and the califlour side dich, we had to order seconds of that, I could have ate a whole plate of it! I will definitly be back.

Great dinner! Will definitely go again
The dinner was awesome. The restaurant was really beautifully decorated. The foods, although fusion not pure Indian, are delicious. The service was great - everyone's smiling and greeting you, and a girl explained every dish to us in a patient and delightful way. Loved the experience!

Restaurant Week 2008
It was a random choice for Restaurant Week because my husband likes Indian food. What luck !! It was very cozy and comfortable. I read that they had gotten a Michelin star so it was high expectations. And they didn't disappoint. The appetizers were lovely..the lamb-stuffed chicken tandoori and scallops were delicious. The entrees were also delicious..the lamb tandoori was cooked perfectly. The desserts were a perfect ending. The waitstaff were very attentive and never hovered. All in all it was a great experience. We would definitely go back.
