Abhout two years ago I went there and a patron at the table for 6 was so loud and boistrous I asked the owner to please quiet him down. The owner said he would not. I left saying to myself I would not return. Now I have and the place was peaceful quiet patrons of East Side substance (not necessarily good). The food, which I sampled for the first time, was iffy. Mussels with saffron cream was great. My hangar steak was tough and my companions steak au poivre was grisely. Service very nice. Will return but will bring my steak mallet to beat the hell out of the steak.

I live around the corner from Deux Amis and think it's one of the best restaurants in the area. Although it's expensive, it's not more than any of the other decent restaurants in the area and I think it's a step above in terms of the food. Their hanger steak au Poivre with spinach and their apple tart are the best I've ever had. They also have outdoor dining (sidewalk), which is also rare in that area.

Deux Amis combines a lively (though small) bar scene, good food and charming and attentive hosts Bucky and Yanni. Dining at the sidewalk tables in the summer months contribute to making you feel you are in a French city instead of in the very centre of the Big Apple.
