Too Noisy, tables too close together!
Had dinner there recently. The tables are very close together and the noise level was unbearable. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. The food and service were fine but the overall dining experience was not pleasant and we will not be returning.

don't go there!
I want to keep Deux Amis as is. Please stay away! It's the best place in the greater neighborhood that I know of. Let's keep it charming.

Great Food and Super Nice People!
I live in the neighborhood and I go there about once a week. First of all the people there are fantastic! They are super nice, sincere and very considerate. The food tastes delicious and very healthy!! I personally love the onion tart, foie gras, salmon, the fish specials(vegetables on the side are great too), pasta(they will make almost any type of pasta based on your request) and roasted chicken etc. Even if I have an appetizer, an entree and some wine, I do not put on any weight afterwards. Special menus on holidays are fantastic too!!

If it is good enough for Emerile...
On our first visit to NYC our local friends took us to this wonderfully quaint restaurant. During the meal I looked over at the table beside us and there was Emerile Lagasse and his wife! We were thrilled to be eating at the same restaurant as one of the best chefs ever. He seemed please with his meal, too. The service was excellent and the price reasonable. My favorite part of the meal was the beet and goat cheese salad. I would go again mainly for the atmosphere and a good meal.

Paris in New York
Run, don't walk to this sleeper restaurant on East 51st Street. It reminds me of several older restaurants in Paris that are so at ease with themselves that the food doesn't have to have "foam" or towers topped with lightening bolts . I have passed Deux Amis many times, but never went in. On a Tuesday night, with Ally playing volleyball until 9pm, my wife and I made a 7pm reservation. It was half filled then and "complet" by 8:45 - mostly with people, I sense, from the neighborhood. The reception could not have been friendlier and the service was truly excellent. The food was like being in Paris - but with bigger portions (and much cheaper). Superb escargot (2 snails in each of six "holes"), great beet and goat cheese salad; wonderful moules marniere with great frites, and the best couscous royale (chicken, lamb, merguez sausage) I have had since the last trip to one of the Arab neighborhoods in Paris. It was so authentic that there was the proper broth and Harissa sauce on the side! Tarte Tatin for desert - very good. Good glass of Cote du Rhone, a cosmo, excellent cafe au lait and espresso. With tax and tip, $65 a head. This was what eating should be. Amities Gourmandes, Ally's dad

It's a bit annoying
I want to like this place, it's very convenient and the food is pretty good. I have been here 3 or 4 times over the past year and each time something has been slightly off. The waiter tried to push us to buy the special and got annoyed when asked how much it is, this happened twice .The place is suprisingly snooty for what it is. We gave the palce a lot of chances but we will not be going back

great steak
Just came here for dinner tonight w/ a friend and had a great meal. We waited until the last minute and thank goodness for that bc all the places we were going to try, we couldn’t get in and by chance we chose to ck our Deux Amis since it was close to my friend’s office. Got here about 7 and at 1st was a little apprehensive bc all we saw were old folks in the place, not a big deal right? Maybe there was some senior citizen discount going on that night, whatever. For starters we got an onion soup (it was ok but ive had better) & Crevettes Au Risotto (fresh sautéed jumbo shrimps served over tomato mushrooms risotto –pretty darn good). For entrée my friend got the Bass Poilee (seared striped bass sautéed spinach, crispy potato, capers, lemon sauce – she said it was good but I didn’t try it) & I got the delicious Steak Au Poivre served with fresh peppercorn sauce & pommes frites & salad – YUMMY! I ate the whole thing :-) we also got a side of potato cheese gratin. DONE. I am definitely coming back even though we were the youngest people in the restaurant.
