I've been to Deluxe a few times, and I have to admit, the only item worth ordering repeatedly is the basic chocolate shake. The majority of their dishes are bland. The portions are fairly decent, some too big, some rather skimpy. Nutrition is fine, taste is not great, and overall atmosphere is not the best. The service is quick, though! It isn't pricy, and the varity isn't great, but this is a classic diner, fit for the average college student.

Was meeting a student in the area for a conference, found this place on this site, and was pleasantly surprised. Service was friendly, food very good, nice portions, albeit a little noisy, but what do you expect for a college eatery? Would go again, we all enjoyed it.

I live in the area, and Deluxe is one of my favourite restaurants. True, it's a glorified diner (read: don't go there for something special) but the food and ambiance is consistently great and at an amazing value for New York City. They are really popular, so sometimes service is a little hectic but always quite friendly. The BLT is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Overall, a great place to get food that is tasty, satisfying, fairly cheap and just a little bit more exciting than the run of the mill diner.

I went to Deluxe today with a nasty hangover. Originally wanted eggs but was tempted by the looks of the burgers. The meat was incredibly greasy and there were little chunks of hard gristle in it. The bun was stale and fell apart all over the place. The coleslaw tasted like nothing, even though it was touted as being "honey mustard" flavored. The french fries were fine. However, the Coke was flat, as if the CO2 had run out of their soda machine. Let's see... the pickle was in fact not a pickle at all, but a limp cucumber. BUT, and this is the one reason that I would go back there... I had the most incredble chocolate milkshake EVER. It was truly superb. Other things on the menu looked good, and I liked the atmosphere of the place, but I don't think I'll go back. I mean, how can you mess up a basic cheeseburger deluxe? Especially for 8 dollars.

Deluxe has pretty good food, albeit a smidgeon overpriced for what it is. The interior kind of reminds me of a TGIFridays, the tables are a bit cramped close together, and the service can be spotty sometimes (I think our waiter forgot about us on at least several occasions when the place was busy). But I've also had some positive experiences. The waitstaff can be very friendly. After one particularly tough day, I stopped in to get dinner to go and the bartender gave me a drink on the house, which perked me up. Deluxe is alright. I wouldn't make a trip for it from elsewhere in the city, but for a neighborhood place, it ain't bad. I'd recommend avoiding anything that sounds like it would require a decent amount of skill from the chefs to prepare, but you can never go wrong with the basics, especially the burgers.

Deluxe is a wonderful place for brunch and / or lunch-- it's our favorite spot in Morningside Heights. We particularly love the brunch food (eggs, potatoes, bacon, pancakes and waffles) which are served every day until 4pm. Additionally, their Cobb salad is deicious and full of wonderful things and they deliver it! Reasonable prices and yummy food- we highly recommend it!

I've lived in the city for a month and I've already been to Deluxe three times, and I don't plan to stop anytime soon. The food is delicious, I've only encountered friendly staff, and the prices aren't at all outrageous. Dine outside if weather, crowds permit.
