quick turnovers and unfamiliar faces
As a grad student in the area I used to love going to Deluxe for some brunch my usual cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the atmosphere had changed considerably in the two years I have been going. There is a high turnover rate for the waitstaff and there is almost a new server every time I go. Also, when I have had a discrepency in the service from one waiter/ress to the next and have reported it to management, they seem confused and do not seem to apologize for anything but instead merely correct the check and walk off without saying anything further. Looks like I'll have to find a new "regular" spot with waiters who know my face in order to get some good service around this neighborhood...

Sadly Unaccommodating
I have never felt so compelled to write a review until I dined at Deluxe this evening. I have gone to the restaurant on multiple occasions and have enjoyed it many times, until tonight. This evening I was dining with my boyfriend, who is allergic to sesame seeds. We were both in the mood for a burger and he made his usual request for 2 bottom buns instead of a top and bottom (the bottom does not have sesame seeds). The waitress returned to our table and informed us that the request could not be fulfilled because it would cost them two buns instead of one. We have never been denied this apparently special request, and were absolutely shocked that the restaurant would not make proper accommodations for an allergy.

a regular at this place!
This place has excellent veggie burgers and I've never been disappointed when I come here for brunches. They have great omelettes , the proportions are very satisfying and great service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great food at an affordable price. You'll become a regular too!!

Good food, service varies
This has become a semi-regular stop for us. Brunch can be a bit expensive, but has been very good each time. Dinners vary from better-than-o.k. to great. Really good burgers at a good price. Service is mixed - like the great waitress who had to seat us herself because the hostess was nowhere to be seen and we had been standing there waiting for a while. Overall service varies based on the waiter/ress but seems to have nothing to do with how busy they are only on the people themselves. I hope they don't split tips. Atmosphere is nice, despite the close proximity to neighboring diners typical of any place in the city.

more than satisfied
I travel to New York to work every week and serendipitously discovered the Deluxe on a walk last fall. It has since become one of my favorite neighborhood places to eat and relax. The food is good (try the basic hamburger or the endive salad), the service is superb and where else can you listen to "My Morning Jacket" played loud enough to be enjoyed, while you dine? John, behind the bar, is just fun to talk with and if I may indulge in a bit of chauvinism, the waitresses are among the most [drop]-dead gorgeous anywhere in the city.

Has Gone Completely Downhill
I'm sad to write this review, because Deluxe used to be hands-down my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood - I would take people here all the time. However, the service has gotten increasingly worse, to the point where I never want to go there again. Several weeks ago, my boyfriend and I ordered delivery. It never showed up, so my boyfriend called the restaurant - THREE TIMES. The first two times, they said they were working on it and would call us back when they figured out what happened. The last time he called, which was over 2 hours after we ordered, they told us that the delivery guy had tried to deliver and that we weren't there. That was not true, since we were there the whole time, and also completely ridiculous, since we had obviously been calling to find out where it was. No apology - they told us to come pick it up if we wanted it. So, we were annoyed, but went to eat there the next week, since it was my favorite restaurant and used to be my go-to restaurant. After eating almost half of my vegetarian grilled vegetable sandwich, I found a piece of chicken in it! I put it on the side of my plate and we gave it to a waitress, who sent over a manager who was completely confused. After he called my boyfriend ma'am, we told him what happened and he ran off immediately without saying anything. Five minutes later, our waiter comes over with the sandwich on a different plate, and started pulling the sandwich apart, arguing that there was no chicken in the sandwich. We tried to explain, but the waiter finally walked off angrily. Five minutes later the manager ran up, threw the check on the table, and left. They didn't charge us for the sandwich, but they also didn't apologize or ask if I wanted anything else. And it used to be my favorite place.
