He greets everyone! Wonderful place!
I am not one to spend too much money on breakfast and lunch in the city but when I do, I go to Delmonico's. The manager is very freindly and so is the staff. I've worked in the service industry in the past and know, service with a smile is everything. The food is always fresh and very tasty. The staff are helpful and look like they enjoy their working environment. Not too mention, the owner/manager greets just about every customer who comes into his place. Talk about service with a smile. Whether the food was good or not, you would want to go back there but its an added bonus when the service and food to great! Most other deli's I go too the staff are grouchy so you know your food ain't gettign no love. Well I hope this review helps. Delmonico's is definately worth checking out.

I'm there every morning
Mostly I'm there at breakfast. I love their bagels (the best in the neighborhood, and I'm a bit of a maven), and frankly, their 'guys' are just awesome. The guys behind the breakfast counter can make or break the whole thing for me, and these folks are awesome. But I've just been turned onto their udon/ramen soups, and it may be my next obsession.

great udon
I am obsessed. it is delicious. and it is a great cold weather soup. you don't go to these delis for the atmosphere or for the service. go for the food. it is relatively cheap compared to midtown prices and the udon is wonderful, esp with a bit of spice added!

Good Food - Poor Service
I kept going back and I really don't understand why. The food was cheap and tasty but I tend to get better communication in European countries where there is a proper language barrier. I mean how difficult is it to understand Egg and Sausage on a roll. The first time I ordered that it came on a bagel. Despite all that the food is actually quite good and cheap to boot. If you can put up with the poor service and attitude it is just about acceptable.

cheapest lunch!
I work in midtown so i've tried every restaurant and deli in this neighborhood. I come to Delmonico at least once a week for the kimchi ramen noodles which are made to order (I add tofu, veggies, an egg, extra spice) and NY's best kept secret: a HUGE bowl of noodles with all the extras for $5.50! They have great made to order salads which are ~$7 and so big I have to split with my co-worker...that's a $4 dollar healthy lunch which is better than freaking Kansas City. They actually have a dining room with plenty of seating but I usually just take-out.

Not Recommended
Good restaurants in midtown are few and far between, but this one takes the prize as the absolute worst for delivery. It took a grand total of three hours to get my office's lunch yesterday, and every time I called, I was lied to. "The food is on its way. The food left 5 minutes ago. The food will be there in 5 minutes. The food will be there in 40 seconds." Neither the delivery people nor the manager speak English, which makes things even harder. Also, the delivery guy insisted that he could not find the address, when it's one of the only buildings on the block and is just right around the corner from the restaurant. I'd never order from here again, and it's a shame because the food is not bad.
