This is what a true restaurant is

If you are looking for a place to spend an amazing evening with your friends, have some great Brazilian food, and lots of fun, then this is it. If you are looking to be in and out in an hour, then go somewhere else. It is rare to find a place in the city where you will not be rushed out right after you are done with your meal, where you can spend an evening out with your friends for and have a nice, long, relaxed dinner. yes, it takes a while to get the food, so make sure you are not starving when you get there.

    poor service

We had to wait one hour for our drinks, three hours for any type of food. There were about 10 tables in this medeocre downstairs setting. One waitress and the owner/chef/host/bus boy. This works in some places and is quite endearing. However, not in this case. I asked for a specific appetizer first 10 minutes we were there and did not receive. When the entrees finally came out (three hours later) they were poorly portioned, came out one at a time and no sides were included. Oh and the appetizer I aksed for three hours earlier and reminded them every time I could? Apparently they ran out of them. There is no excuse for waiting more than 45 minutes for food - especially in new york city. Good food maybe allows an hour. MAYBE. Only if it's guaranteed delicious, or it's a new restaurant with training wheels, a large crowd, etc. When living in new york city, you acquire an unspoken patience when for waiting for good food. Good food is the key here and what was missing at the ironically named Delicia.

    Depends on YOU

Ok so we went here in March of 08. Not a heavy tourist time. Other reviewers have said the service was bad and the food not worth the $. We arrived and one other person was there, who soon left and we had the place to our threesome. The owner/chef, Jose, is a great Brazilian-comes-to-the-US story in itself, but on to the food. If you want to eat quickly, skip this place. We were the only ones there and it still took 3 hours, arrival to departure. But what a magnificent 3 hours. The wine list was limited but excellent. The caiprihinas delicious. Don't miss the Muqueca or Fejioda. Both so flavorful and savory we didn't want the meal to end. As another reviewer said, skip the steak. You can get a great steak somewhere else, but you can't get incredible authentic Brazilian AND converse with the chef too anywhere else. At the end of the meal, he brought out some dessert wine and fun party garb that we all put on and made fools of ourselves. It was FUN. What happens in NY, stays in NY! But we will always remember this place for the excellent food, and atmosphere.

    delicious and painfully slow

I went in an immediately placed an order for appetizers and made it clear that I wanted a quick meal and to please bring the food out as it was ready. the appetizers took over a half hour and the sole waitress did not even bring our salad out until we finished the other apps. After over an hour and a half of waiting we got our main courses, one of which was wrong. The waitress said she could replace it in 5 minutes. If it took five minutes to redo the dish, why couldn't I have had my food quicker, there was only one other table occupied when we sat down?! That being said, food was quite tasty and original.

    Greedy and Slow!

We have never been to a restaurant that took over 3.5 hours to get our entire meal out! Granted, the food was "delicia," but it wasn't worth the wait. There is one waitress running the entire place, and an owner/waiter/cookso only 2 people attempting to cater to all patrons! The phrase of the night was "Is our food coming yet?" After the 3.5 hours, we had lost our appetite and wanted to take the food home. The owner/waiter/cook has a policy about No Doggie Bags with Prix Fix meals. So, we were faced with the dilemma of wasting $75 of food! We told the waitress that there should be an exception to that policy given the long wait. We even offered to pay for the To-Go boxes, but it turned out that the owner doesn't even invest in them! So, the policy should more accurately be "No To Go on any meal." Definitely try this place out if you want authentic food, but 3.5 hours to spare, no To-Go boxes, no AC, no functioning credit card machine, and a 2-employee staff.

The most disappointing dining experience in a while..

I had high expectations for Delicia after reading the reviews on menupages. Having wanted to try the restaurant for a while, I finally went there with a friend last night. We arrived around 6:30 and were promptly seated and served our pitcher of Maracuja drink. It was okay, nothing special. We then ordered the pao de queijo and the picanha and camarao na moranga. After waiting for about half an hour, I jokingly asked the waiter / owner if he was also the cook, because it was taking a little while. He said that it was his assistant's first day. Ok fine. Finally we got our 4 cheese rolls, but by 8:30 the food still hadn't come. It was completely impossible to catch the waitstaff's eye to ask for more bread in this tiny restaurant, so I got up and went to the kitchen to ask for it myself. The bread never came. My friend and I were starving and were about ready to leave, but felt bad and waited it out. Finally at 9pm, the food came out. My shrimp was not in a pumpkin, and tasted about as bland as airplane food. I didn't try my friend's picanha, but the steak closely resembled a shoe inset. After we ate, it took us yet another 15 minutes to get the waiter's attention to bring us the check. This was THE most disappointing dining experience I have had in years, and I will certainly never go back there. Hopefully, for the restaurant's sake, it was the new assistant's first and last day.

    Viva Delicia Brazil

Amazing, amazing food. The service wasn't bad either. On a Saturday night, the place starts getting packed at around 9 pm. So I recommend making reservations if you plan to show up for a late dinner. This is a refreshing place in the West Village, where some restaurants are known more for their pretense than their food.
