    What's all the hype?

My boyfriend ate at Del Posto a few times and kept telling me I would like it. So we went last night and the only thing that I liked about it was the decor. It is a beautiful large space with a nice atmosphere. Other than that I found the restaurant to be average at best. Our overpriced apps were very unimpressive. We ordered a seafood salad that didnt taste very good and a mushroom app that consisted of a tiny bit of lettuce with 3 little mushrooms. My friend and I ordered the Orata which I would compare to a sea bass. This dish had such an awful fishy smell to it that we couldnt eat it. Im not one to usually complain but I definitely would not recommend this place! Sorry Mario, maybe you should stick to Babbo.

    F A N T A S T I C !!!

we came to del posto on sunday night for a birthday celebration and left extremely happy! the service was attentive, our water's suggestions were great. the food was spectacular - fresh, delicious, large portions. the atmosphere was soothing, upscale (live music added a special holiday touch). we were promptly seated and were asked for the drinks order almost immediately. before we saw the menus, they brought out house appetizers - cured swordfish (yum!), spiced cauliflower, bean soup, and bruschetta! for our meal, we each had an appetizer, risotto, entree, dessert and drinks. every course, every dish was phenomenal. we had trouble understanding the menu since most items were described in italian but the waiter translated it for us. they also had specials, on top of their usual menu! here's what we ordered - APPETIZERS: yellofin & tail sushi (no rice - pieces of fresh fish with coarse sea salt and oil; phenomenal); arugula, goat cheese and beet salad (the goat cheese was of camembert/brie consistency which was a little unexpected; this was perhaps the only slightly disappointing dish for my friend), spicy spaghetti with jalapeno & crabmeat (a generous portion; very tasty), seafood salad (my friend left the plate perfectly clean :)). the waiter suggested we share risotto, which was a fantastic recommendation. we would come back just for this dish alone - aged balsamic vinegar and parmesan added the perfect touch to this dish. ENTREES: Croatian trout (that night's special - just spectacular), tuna, pumpkin and mascarpone cheese-filled pasta, and beef prepared 2 ways. It was hard to finish the portions but we loved the food so much, the plates went back to the kitchen clean! DESSERT: lemon trio, homemade sorbets & gelato, and warm caramel cake, coupled with fragrant looseleaf teas. we left very satiated, very pleased. it was a very special evening in a place that could easily become our favorite restaurant in New York City. we can't wait to go back!

    Simply perfect

First it is simply a beautiful place, tables extremely well placed so you aren't on top of anyone and it's huge. The food is fabulous. For our second course we decided to do the three tasting of pastas, one was better than the next. We had four or more courses, I'm not sure, I went into a trance. We asked the sommelier to pair two glasses of wine with our orders, we each had a different white and the same red, perfect. Their per glass selection is huge. Now the price, about $140 each w/o tip. We didn't care we were in nirvana. I believe I used up all my extra Weight Watchers points for the week but it was worth it! You've got to go.

    Amazing again.....

Kim & I dinned in the bar last night, and it could not have been better. In the past two months, these guys have really kicked it up a few notches. It could be a four star place very soon. Everything was perfect, the food, the service, the music and of course the wine. I always let Danny pair my wine with my dinner, and he has been right on. Great job Danny. The quality and quanity of the food is oustanding. They might have the best price fixed in the city. Try it, and enjoy the wines with it. Just sit back and enjoy, and be sure to bring a date. He or she will love you for it. Just side note, Joe and his mom were there, as they are all the time, but no Mario for a while...If you see the vespa parked outside on the side walk, he is there... Just do not try to sit on it!!!!

All Hype, Tiny Portions, Poor Wine Pairings

The place looks nice enough. We had a nice cozy seat. The service was OK. The portions were nothing short of ridiculous. The food was OK at best & the wine pairings were not good. Overall Mario looks well fed? I left after spending close to $200 for 2 people HUNGRY? Better quality & Value to be had else where.

Very nice but not as good as Babbo

I was looking forward to trying Mario's most recent but have to say it doesn't measure up to Babbo. I'm not sure I can put my finger on what's missing, but something is. The food was fantastic (as always) and I highly recommend the Vacca Rossa Risotto. It's very simple and finished with balsamic vinegar but the flavors are AMAZING. I think this is what Mario does best. Wonderful meal and not overpriced.

Del Posto is worth every penny!

Del Posto is an elegant restaurant with no pretension, not an easy combination. The food is outstanding-expensive, yes, but consistent with the quality, atmosphere and service. My husband and I went on Sunday for his birthday and enjoyed every minute; the only drawback was the overly casually dressed fellow diners. Can people please wear something other than a sweat suit or jeans for dinner out? We enjoyed four small plates of amuse bouche sent by the chef before the salumi appetizer, along with a delicious basket of hot breads. We then each ordered pasta-the penne with bolognese and spicy crab spaghetti. Each was outstanding, but the spaghetti was a stand out. The pasta dishes were not small, each would be fine as an entree and certainly bigger than a primi would be in Italy. We then shared the mixed seafood grill for two, which was an enormous plate of lobster, shrimp, scallops, etc,, served with roasted potatoes in a very good, compex sauce. We shared one dessert-the caramel cake with salted caramel ice cream-AMAZING. As if this were not enough food, they roll over a cart of cookies and candies and give you a full plate to chose from. Coffee and port topped off the evening; we also had an excellent bottle of pinot grigio during the meal. The total for all of this was $256.00, which I did find unreasonable for the meal and atmosphere. Accompanying the meal was a jazz trio playing softly, adding to the romatic mood. To close the evening, we met Lidia by the door, and she was as gracious as could be. You cannot go wrong with Del Posto, it is one of the best in New York.
