Del Posto

Though this place is absolutely delicious, I am not so sure it is worth it outside of the lunch special hours. I only say that because it's just as good as another Batali/Bastianch restaurant but double the price. If you can't make the lunch special I would consider looking on either of the owner's websites for their sister restaurants which are all delicious!

We have been to Del Posto once a year since it opened. Its been one of our favorite places for great food in and elegant dinning. Went this weekend and Del Posto continued to deliver. For main dishes my wife ordered the lobster and I had the duck and both were excellent. The pastas were also great. The only new observation is that Del Posto no longer serves a la carte, only offers pre-fix menus. The basic one is a 5 course for $115. So it guarantees that the bill will be steep when including a reasonable bottle of wine (~$85). I guess after their great NYT review back in September they have been able to raise prices 20%. Still worth it.

To put it simply this place is all flash no cash. They should do away with the pomp and refocus on the food. The menu sounds great but unfortunately disappoints across the board. My special of langoustine with caviar was a joke and was so small I need a razor blade to scape it up. The pastas which should be a no-brainer here were so pedestrian and I have had much better at non-italian restaurants. These included the pumpkin ravioli with a filling so hot I needed to go to a burn unit(probably was microwaved), noodles with crab and jalapeno that tasted as if it sat around for a few hours and the 100 layer lasagna that makes the Stouffers version look like four star dish. Our mains included dover sole which was good at best, lobster that was over cooked and average lamb. Honestly the tartufo for dessert was the best thing served with the rest of the desserts mediocre. My recommendation to the restaurant is skip the handbag stool, have the waiters not hover so much and refocus your energy on the food. Four stars by the New York Times, I think not.

I am a complete foodie and Iron Chef fanatatic, so you must realize how excited I was to try Del Posto. The food was good, but not great. I have tried equivalent Italian food in New York, and thus was quite disappointed with Mr. Batali. The quality of the food and selection were excellent. The atmosphere was beyond gorgeous - I felt like I was part of a scene in an old gangster film. Reservations were made beforehand and we had no problem being seated. We tried the vegetables and calamari for appetizers which were delicious. Then for dinner we had the pumpkin cappellacci, seared duck breast, baked lamb, and striped sea bass. I was told the lamb was overcooked (cant vouch for this as I didn't eat it myself). The cappellachi was the perfect tenderness but the presentation was terrible and it lacked that extra boost of flavor. The striped sea bass was perfectly prepared, but I did not like the combination with the bagna cauda which made the dish to salty and with similar flavors throughout. There was nothing exciting about the dish. The duck was also perfectly prepared and succulent. The additional spices and foie gras which complemented the dish well. For dessert we had a sampler of biscuits and biscotti which were mediocre, along with yogurt gelati with plum which was also mediocre. Del Posto is def. a great restaurant, but I expected more from my Iron Chef.

A dream come true- We finally got to Del Posto for a very special occasion-Table was fine- Lighting much too dark-Could not read the menu-Pasta dish was miniscule- secondi -Pork-Tough as shoe leather- Complained to no avail -Jackets required but many without jackets- Check at the end was even smaller type than in menu - No way we would return-No wonder Michelin didn't review

We had an excellent overall dining experience on a Friday night. Service was attentative withoug being over bearing, and everything from cocktails, wine, and food was supurb. It was expensive, but about what you'd expect for a place of this caliber. Can't wait to go back.

if you're a vegetarian or have any dietary restrictions than this is not the place for you- the overpriced menu coupled with miniscule portions will leave you less than satisfied and looking for more. asking questions about the menu seemed to be torturous for the waiter who was visibly annoyed that i could not eat the meat- the one subsittution he could make would be a pasta with marinara. how decadent!
