Spend $100 per person; leave hungry

The portions were bordering on ridiculous. We each got two small bites of each dish (and in some cases one small bite each!). I understand (and actually prefer) the small plates concept but other places offer you the same level of food and you can actually craft a meal out of it and still spend less. The food was mostly good, but never great. I had to come home and make popcorn.

    Disappointed

I went to Degustation with some friends and was very disappointed. The space is very trendy, the service was wonderful, and everyone was friendly. The food was interesting and tasty but the portions were so tiny and expensive that we all left hungry. The cheese platter for $15 while again tasty, was barely enough for one person. If you are looking to try several dishes, you can rack up the bill in a few minutes. In these difficult times when eating out is a rarity, I like to get my money's worth.

    Foodie Heaven!

Degustation definitely lives up to all the great reviews and then some. The food was fresh, clean and prepared with great care. Herbs/spices are carefully used to enhance the natural flavors of the food--not overpower them. The tortilla was a mouthwatering treat--the quail yoke melted in your mouth with the first bite of the delectable potato morsel. The quail truly is one of the best things I have eaten in NY. Perfectly cooked and spiced--the sides of fresh figs and roasted pistachios pure delight. The red proteins are all wonderful--from the boar to the lamb, the meat is perfectly cooked and suprisingly light. The grand finale dessert--to die for!! brioche soaked in creme with a hint of citrus then grilled to perfection with a carmel coating. if you love to eat, run to this place...and on top of all the fabulous food, the atmosphere is relaxed and cozy--a real treat.

    Great once again

My wife and I had an incredible dinner here to celebrate her first week at her new job. The food was absolutely phenomenal - creative combinations, wonderful presentation and delicious flavors. The service was attentive and efficient and it was fun watching the kitchen staff prepare our food in front of us. While the price tag isn't going to be low, at $50 for a five course tasting menu, this is one of the best deals in the city for the quality of food you'll receive. Go - you won't regret it!

    Flawless

My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time last night after reading positive reviews and were not disappointed. In fact, it exceeded all expectations and has gone to the top of my list as one of the best restaurants in New York City. We went to Le Bernardin a few weeks ago to celebrate our anniversary, and I think this meal (we did the 5 course with wine pairing) was actually much better and more inventive. I only hesitate to write this review because I don't want more people going!! Fantastic value, incredible food and fantastic service.

    One of my Favorite Restaurants

The previous reviewer wrote an absurd critque of this unbelieveable restaurant. Every time that I come to Degustation, I anticipate the suberb dishes that the extremely professional chefs take delight in serving. Everything on the menu is prepared flawlessly. The wine list is pretty good as well. Definitely order the tasting menu. Definitely make a reservation because it tends to be packed.

    Looks better than it tastes

When we walked in it looked fantastic. We were seated quickly and were captivated by the precise choreography of the three chefs preparing beautifully designed dishes. But sadly from there the experience slowly declined. We ordered, a salad, a poached egg, steak and pork. each dish looked impressive but taste did not measure up to the presentation. The silverware was changed for each dish but they did not have a proper knives for meat dishes. The desserts were also very disappointing. Especially the banana coated in chocolate. Then before we were finished with our bottle of wine, the waiter told us to hurry up because there was another couple waiting who had a reservation (we were a walk-in). We left disappointed and even more disappointed with ourselves for not mentioning any of the problems with the service to the manager. Our vindication.... you just read it.
