    Rushed

Service was poor from the moment I arrived (5 minutes early for my reservation) with two of a party of 4. The first thing the hostess said was that if the balance o our party wasn't there in 15 minutes she would give away our table. Nice welcome! Once we were seated, before we could even settle in our chairs the waitress was rushing us to take our order and retuned every two minutes till we ordered. Servers were trying to take plates away before we even finished.

    Great Suprise

So we're walking on w 10th street looking for a place to eat dinner and we stumble across De Santos. We were seated quickly towards the back past the bar and it was a really cozy/warm atmosphere, the kind of place you want to be on a cold nite. My daughter ordered the tuna tar tar and we all shared and very nice. For entrees I ordered the organic chicken with mashed potatoes, the wife ordered a special branzino and my daughter got the muscles. All the food was really good. The branzino was very tasty, the chicken was moist and the gravy and potates added a nice touch. The Muscels were excellent in a white wine sauce. My son got the strip stake, which he enjoyed. I enjoyed and will definetly be back. Also staff was friently and attentive.

de santos? de nada. forget it, please

The service is strictly amateur. My pArty waited 25 minutes for the waiter to even swing by and deliver the drinks we ordered -- which were tepid for sitting on the service bar. Food was average, an overcooked steak and rubbery chicken, droopy pasta. The manager was so rude when we explained we were not happy with what was on our plate. Instead of asking us what was the problem, we told us our kind of people wouldn't even know good food because we were too young: late twenties and that we were spoiled. De santos? why bother.

A great find in a great 'hood

So my GF and I stumbled upon this place last fall after dinner while walking thru the W Village, and we popped in for a few drinks. The place was pretty crowded, the menu was seasonal and one-page (both big pluses), and we felt a good vibe overall. So we decided to come back for dinner/drinks at some pt. We returned a few weeks ago, and the place did not disappoint one iota. Place was already packed on a Thurs nite @ 7pm. Great food (porcini truffle risotto was top notch, as were the popcorn shrimp), a clever/outgoing waiter who 'was with it', great crowd, and overall great experience catapulted this place into one of our top spots. Next time we're coming back w/a group. Keep up the good work....

    Great place...crappy bartender

So I tend to frequent this place on Saturday nights. I really love it here but for the first time I left there with a pretty bad taste in my mouth. My friend noticed last Saturday upon trying to get a drink that the bartender acted as if she didnt see her for like 20 minutes until one of my guy friends had to take her place and order the drinks. To my dismay, it happened again to me but this time she actually eyed me and asked the guy directly behind me what he wanted to drink. As I was not loud, rude or even remotely inconsiderate but politely waiting my turn I found this rather appalling. Assuming she may have known the guy I patiently waited and she continued to serve the men. I have to say she is a poor representation of DeSantos, as minus the bartender it's a great place.

    What's with the attitude?

My wife and I had reservations on Saturday. We get there and the restaurant is near empty (two other tables) but the hostess seats us in the basement right by the kitchen. When we asked for a different table on the main floor, she copped a lot of attitude like we were really incoveniencing her. Our server was pleasant enough although he disappeared for long stretches of time. At one point I ordered another drink and I could see it waiting on the bar for 15 minutes (the hostess reseated us right by the bar where the drinks are picked up). The staff all seem to be more interested in congregating and joke around with each other rather than actually working. It's too bad because I really wanted to like this place. The space (upstairs) is pretty nice and the food was OK, but the I really hated the attitude. I'd be reluctant to go back.

    pleasant surprise

based on the reviews I had low expectation and was very pleasantly suprised. Swordfish w/corn was anything but dry and the duck excellent. excellent side vegetables. one negative is that service felt rushed we went early 6:30, were 1 of 2 tables and the waitress really pushed us to order. will go again in the summer for the patio
