Went for Restaurant Week and Loved it!

Went here despite the bad reviews listed on this site - but the food was excellent and so was our waiter. Sat in the back and got to watch one of the chefs cooking meats. The food was great, liked the okra, samosas, and restaurant week dinners - very delicious. My friend and I agreed that we would come back when it wasn't restaurant week - but not any time soon ( as we are poor college students!)

    Food is a thumbs down

The food was nothing to rave about. Our waiter was nice and asked if he could bring us something else, but we were running late, so the experiece was no so great. I wouldn't go back.

    Very Disappointing

My wife, my parents and myself recently visited Dawat (Oct 07) and the meat-eaters amongst us came away very disappointed. The guide books are unanimous in their praise for this restaurant, but sadly I think they are out of date. The recent reviews on Menu Pages are much closer to the mark. My wifes korma was bland and lacking in texture - on a par with a Supermarket stir-in sauce. My tikka was flavourless despite the good quality chicken meat. Our bajha starter was awful and tasted of nothing more than cooking oil. The service was very good and they couldn't do enough for you, but you go to this establishment for one thing and one thing only - the food - which as I have explained was below par. My parents did enjoy there vegetarian meals, but I can only comment on what I tasted.

    Min value for money....

Well I tried both ordering in food and sitting there for my dinner. Surely I was dissapointed both the times. The taste is less than average, but the value and the service are not at all up to the mark!!

    Consistently Disappointing

We've dined here 4 or 5 times over the past 2 months hoping that the food would get better. This, because the atomosphere and service are quite good. With very few exceptions (one would be the excellent cauliflower), every dish is extremely dry, every time. The best Indian food we're experienced is at Diwan on 48th Street. We tried 6 or 7 different dishes and each one was just delicious. The problems with Diwan is the awkward seating (some seats are like couches), and very amatuerish service. There's also a language problem. Nevertheless, I'll probably give Dawat a few more tries, again because of the far superior atmosphere and service, but if any of you have another Indian to recommend, I'd appreciate it.

    Best Indian food outside India

I have eaten Indian food all my life. I compare all the food I eat to food back home in India. Dawat food is the closest that has gotten to authentic Indian food. The service was awesome and prompt. The chef also made sure the food was hot enough for us to eat unlike most of the 'adapted' Indian food here. The food selection was real good too and the menu was vast. I am addicted to this food and so is my husband.... Cant wait to go there again.

    Better food elsewhere

The best thing about this place was the atmosphere. The food is good, but it's not the best Indian I've ever had. If you like pretensious service where they spoon rice out for you and practically wipe your mouth too, you'll love it! They're very attentive, but I found it a bit overbearing.
