Nothing like what it used to be

Used to love this place for ladies' lunch--a little pricey but well worth it. Went back for the first time since the name change and found that much more than the name has changed. Service was poor--we sat with menus for twenty minutes and had to ask someone to take our order. Took another ten minutes and another request to get the glass of wine that had been ordered. Food quality was fair to poor. Calamari was so greasy it was inedible, and chocolate mousse had no chocolate flavor. Don't waste your time and money here.

    Way Downhill

My husband and I used to be big fans of this restaurant. Today was our first visit (for brunch) since it changed to David Burke Townhouse and both the service and quality of food were not good. We waited 45 minutes for our soup and yogurt appetizers, which were subpar, followed by another 30 minute wait for eggs benedict, which were cold and a tasteless black truffle and gruyere frittata. Such a disappointment. We won't be back.

    Really Good

Went for restaurant week with a friend of mine. We both ordered the crabcake and short rib and got different desserts. I dont know what people are complaining about, the food was excellent and well proportioned, the service was right on point, and we had a great time. It was a little expensive, but thats what restaurant week is for, the ability to try new restaurants you wouldnt normally eat at. The place was also packed, we left at 9 and there were plenty of people waiting to be seated. overall it is a great restaurant and I would definitely go back!

    over-rated

Presentation is great, but the food prep and quality is hit and miss -- and at these prices, this simply should not be. Food is often heavy and unsubtle, as if the chef does not really know what he is doing; generally, the food is not as refined as it should be for this level of dining. Examples of this were the very heavy (though still tasty) short rib, and a fried calamari that was very greasy and largely unenjoyable. The panna cotta was good, but far too sweet to finish the whole portion. There were a few prep issues as well: for example, two of my shrimp were sloppily de-veined (and they were not of particularly high quality) and not all of the apples in the apple tart were completely peeled. These are unforgivable failures for a restaurant at this price point. My entree salad could best be described as "greasy" as the fried potato cubes added nothing but oil and heaviness, and the dressing is poured warm, which wilts the greens. Considering that bacon is involved... yes, "greasy" is really the most apt description. The chicken breast that was in the salad was wonderful -- tender and delicately seasoned -- but it would have been nice for it to have been cut into pieces. I mean, this was a salad with an entire chicken breast lurking at the bottom of the plate. Odd. Decor was nice; conditions are cramped; service is functional but not much more than that. I'd go back here to give it another chance, but the first visit was definitely a swing and a miss.

    Ordinary

This is in a townhouse, so the restaurant is long and narrow (less than 20 feet wide, I think). It has a corridor in the middle, with cramped tables on both sides... I dont think there are many windows. The food is ordinary, not bad, and definitely not great. The deserts were fine (like any good place), the main courses were subpar and the appetizers were hit-or-miss. We were a party of three, and only the crabcake was great. The ribs in the main course were particularly poor and dripping with oil. The fries were cold. We were told that the chef would be informed, after mentioning this. The food took a while to arrive, and we were kept waiting in between courses. When I am spending $40+ for a lunch, I expect way better. The experience was ok for $20-25 (incl tax and tip), but not more.

    They won me over ...

Beautiful atmosphere, excellent presentation, lovely people waiting on us, and wonderful lunch price fixe options. Appetizers were all good (most tender calamari I've ever had). Mains could be improved. Desserts were the best and I really enjoyed them. Best lunch deal on the UES.
