David Burke Kitchen

Cute sunny pleasant restaurant. Very nice atmosphere. Enjoyed the thin breadsticks. No "wow factor" in the 2 beef & 2 lobster dumplings (although I liked it was made with thin dumpling skin.) Entrees were hot and the salmon was a good sized portion; quiche (ok). Desserts were too sweet: chocolate cake & passion fruit with average tasting ice cream on the side.

Ate in DBK this evening 10th December 2012. Food was very mediocre up to dessert. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding ...a special. The pudding was so dry I could not cut it with my spoon, nor could the waitress. I did not complain but when asked if I enjoyed dessert I said no because it should have been a moist pudding. The waitress had a quick chat with the floor manager and then came back with a dish complements of the chef for the poor pudding. A selection of their special lollipops and donuts. I thought this was a pleasant attempt to make up, until my wife pointed out that these were the remnants of the next table's desserts...they had just finished their meal moments before. So DBK great for recycling but dreadful for customer care. Please save yourself the heartache....

All but a very few upscale restaurants have their good and bad days, so I try to be forgiving if one dish on my order is not what I had hoped -- could be my misreading of the offering, could be them, just messing up. My meal last night, however, consisted of two total disasters, albeit in different ways. My tuna tartare tacos with "guacamole" and tabiko was beyond blah: the tuna was completely unseasoned, the guacamole was a just a squiggle of tasteless green, and the tabiko was MIA. But it was the fried chicken entree (a "Tuesday special") that really chilled my Southern soul. In a word, I've had better at chain chicken restaurants. The David Burke version was underseasoned and disastrously overcooked: the crust was the color of very dark leather and tasted distinctly burnt. Beyond the food, all was fine: excellent service and a nice -- albeit deafening -- room.

I don't know what to say about this restaurant's inconsistency. The food was truly outstanding. Generous portions, all delicious. We tried tuna tartare tacos, octopus, short ribs, lobster salad, grilled trout and pork chops. The sticky Monkey pudding dessert was HUGE and delicious, enough for 4 large portions. Everything was really well-prepared. The service was kind but inept. Dishes came without knives, empty butter dish was not replaced. It took forever and finally we had to ask the busboy to remove dirty entree plates. The restaurant was about 25% full so there was no explanation for this. It was really a shame given the quality of the food. Setting is average, not really memorable. Went to the ladies room after dinner...this must be shared with the bar. The floor was wet and dirty and paper towels were piled on top of the trash. Really a mess. Took a fun walking tour of the treehouse bar. Great spot for a drink and very friendly and busy. However,if this spot and the restaurant share the bathroom they are desperately in need of an attendant.

This was my first time to David Burke kitchen and I loved it. My friend and I got the prefix brunch so I ordered an app and she ordered a dessert so we could try multiple dishes. I ordered the tuna tartare tacos which were really good. My friend ordered the french toast and I ordered the mushroom omelette with ricotta. Both were delicious but especially the french toast. THAT was heavenly. For dessert we ordered the apple tart. Not over the top but good. Our service was good but a couple of times servers were confused and came to our table with the wrong order. Our waiter was very attentive though. I would definitely go back!

first of all - let me berate the rest of the menupages family who all seem to care more for service than food. if you want great, cheap service then drag yourself to applebees or TGIF. if you want great food - then go to David Burke. all of the food is whimsical, well-made, and absolutely outstanding. do yourself a favor and make sure to get a couple of apps - we had ants on a log (bone marrow and snails), bison tartar (chili infused sauce), and fried grapes and peanut butter (and bacon!) the mains were just as good - the fish dishes were made with a light hand - both in cooking and saucing - leading to a somewhat understated, but absolutely delicious dish. the meats were beautifully charred on the outside and bloody on the inside (as they should be!) pastas were all al dente with smack you in the face sauces. and the scallop dish with quail eggs made out knees buckle. if this doesn't sound good to you and you are more concerned that the wait staff aren't wearing enough flair, then get off of menupages, find a hooters and stuff your face with great service.

While the food is decent, the service is completely lacking. It's the second time I've been for brunch and both times our servers were missing throughout the meal. It's a shame because the space is great and the food is good (when it's not cold from sitting in the kitchen waiting to be picked up). Don't think I'll be back.
