    Best Indian in the area

I have eaten here a twice, once with as a couple and once with a party of 12, both times service, food and atmosphere are excellent. If you are in the area and want technically good food at a very good price with slightly over attentive staff then this is the place to eat.

Tasty lunch buffet but service not so good

Had the weekend lunch buffet. Food was good. Service lacking - there were more customers than they could handle. Naan, water, etc were hard to come by. Maybe they thought we'd eventually leave out of thirst. This being said, I'd probably go back but not during the peak time.

    Repeat Customers

Came for dinner. . .came back for lunch buffet. I recommend the buffet as you will have the opportunity to taste so many delicate flavors. . . and they do a stupendous job with buffet quantity foods. The spices and herbs are given a good hand here. Who would have thought that I would love goat. . but I did.

    Great food, service... ehhhh?

I heard about Darbar from the Best of Citysearch and, it being around the corner from my apartment, looked like a good dinner option with my mom who was in from out of town. The interior looks like it could be the lobby from an Embassy Suites... cliche decorations and such, but not trashy. The service left a lot to be desired... the staff was more concerned with take-out orders than those of patrons dining in. For example, our appetizer took 45 minutes and our entrees took another 20-30 after that. HOWEVER, the food was unbelievable... I had Aloo Gobi and the sauce was fabulous. My mom thoroughly enjoyed her lamb, as well. All in all, I'd love to come back but I hope their service improves.

Overall: Outstanding food and plenty of it, with courteous service (very friendly owner), plus fabulous mojitos. The goa fish curry, chicken kabob, and chicken vindaloo were excellent. The desserts looked enticing, too, but the entree portions were so large we had no room to try them. As an added bonus, the espresso and sambuca romano were also first-rate.

Very good buffet, cheap for midtown

$10.95 for a lunch buffet would be pricey outside of Midtown. Here, it's better than the ones in the area charging $13.95. Everything was tasty and fresh. Nice variety of meat and veg dishes. Chutneys and Raita were high quality. Tasty Gulab Jamin for dessert, and that's easy to get wrong. No complaints. Well, $3 for a coke is annoying, but I was expecting it.

    Awesome!

This is the best Indian food I've ever had! Way better than all these other places in the immediate area! I've been eating from a few other places for a while - but I just found my new favorite. I just picked up a lunch box special #3 with curry goat, the most delicious basmati rice, Peas Pulato and curry spinach. Also got a Mulligatawny soup. Everything tasted soo FRESH and delicious. Just the right amount of spice! Head and shoulders above the other places in this area (east 40's/50's). And I've just about tried them all. The only place that can compare to them is Baluchi's, but I would still give the nod to Darbar. I can't wait to try their other dishes! Enjoy!
