Not worth it
There are much better places in NYC for someone to be stuck having to go to Darbar. On an average, food is very pedestrian. Meat is surely something that one should consciously avoid, both, for quality and quantity...... There are a variety of option in midtown so please don't corner yourself to dine here.

Excellent, Excellent and Excellent
I never got disappointed with this restaurant. Great food, friendly service, perfect ambience and excellent presentation are its four pillars. It is one of the best Indian restaurants in Manhattan and I recommend this restaurant to every one either to enjoy a good meal with family or to just hang out with friends.

A disappointment
We love Indian food, and thought we'd try this highly rated place for Thanksgiving. The service was slow, even though there was only one other table in use. One of our dishes, the raita, arrived when we were almost done with the meal. We asked for onions with our two Tandoori dishes, something served at every other Indian restaurant I've ever been to, and were told "no, we don't do that." The food was okay, not special. We won't be returning. By the way, I've been in the restaurant business, and understand all the problems. I rarely complain, but this was a real disappointment.

Good food
great dinner dinner at DARBAR was a great experience. the food was delicious, interesting, and obviously filling. our server was wonderful - he was extremely informative and attentive. we didn't expect the no shoe cross-legged seating (which was difficult for two of the not so flexible members of our group) but it was different and kind of fun. would definitely go back.

Good Indian Food Delivery
Excellent indian food for delivery - their website allows you to order online which is a positive. The chichen tikka masala is very good.

Finger Licking Good
This is the best Indian restaurant in NYC The variety at the lunch buffet cannot be beaten, and the entrees at dinner are flavorful, picquant, and plentiful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE

Best Indian Food in Manhattan
Four of us went to Darbar for the first time a few nights ago to celebrate a friend's retiremen, and everything I read in the reviews was true. The service was excellent and unobtrusive. The waiters were friendly and helpful with our menu choices, even making suggestions when asked. Every dish we ordered was delicious. After eating all the wonderful food, we were too full for dessert. Imagine our surprise and my friend's delight when the waiters surprised us with a complimentary assortment of ice-creams with a candle on it! They had asked what the occasion was when they saw us writing our messages in a greeting card, and they provided that special addition at the end of the meal. It was a nice touch to a good evening with friends. We will definitely return.
