    Simply The Best

Darbar is wonderful. The food is beyond amazing and the service is great and the price is not bad at all. No other place can compare to Darbar. If you haven't gone..GO!! I promise you will love it.

    pleasant surprise

I heard a lot from my colleges about lines of people waiting to try Darbar's buffet. My husband and myself went there for dinner. First the restaurant seemed empty - but they have an upper level which could not be seen from outside. It is a really nice dining area with a great ambiance. The food was delicious. Their tandoori entrees is something to die for (I'm talking as a kebab-lover) and those who likes spicy - you can not go wrong with goat bhuna, that's what I call authentic Indian. The service was great too. I would definitely recommend this place to everybody.

new location on 55th street - delicious.

we ate here on the restaurant's first night open and ordered the reshmi kebab (charcoal-grilled chicken with creamed cheese and cardamom), which was delicious. the bhel puri had just the right amount of tang. and the paneer pasanda's sauce was spicy but didn't overwhelm the taste. gulab jamun for dessert was a treat - a nice thick, syrupy sauce and an almost-crisp outer layer that gave way to a piping-hot sweet taste that melts in your mouth. yum.

    Bad - deterioating quality

The service and the food have consistently got wrose over the last year. I tried it out a few months and recently again and it was bad. Too oily, poorly cooked and the variety wasnt there in the buffett.

    gone downhill, varying consistency,

Darbar is better than most cheap indian resutrants and the food appears to be made fresh, however it is pricey for what you get and someones you don't get what you pay for. The condiments are okay but can be watery , the food is generally fresh but sometimes it is lacking in flavor, samosas are good, would not recommend the vegetable dishes. Desserts are horrible too sweet and small portions, rasmali tastes creamish a watery, gulab jamun is very sweet and not consitent with the inside, and one would ask if the food was very good why need so many condiments. $5 mango lassi is a ripoff and they don't even make it themselves too sweet, I hadn't found out until recently its from a carton A bit of details, the food as in the lamb and chicken varies , its not too bad but can be either overcooked or very simple. The dry meats(tandoor) are nothing to write home about, just basic, and you need a lot of yogurt to go with it, the lamb chops weren't a huge deal for $24 for 3 pieces. Tandoor chicken is not much better than your average take-out place although it is fresh. Tikka masala average, spinach paneer not great, taste the spinach but doesn't blend well with the cheese. Mind you, I sound negative but that's the truth - I've been here atleast a dozen times, its gone downhill a bit. The prices are being raised a lot, as the previous reader said the staff sometimes says we don't do that overhere when asking about basic condiments. Condiments can also taste slighty watered down Staff is better than most restaurants I have to agree but seem the previous reviews mention also on city search about the negativity and inconsistency. Compare this with tamarind on east 22 street, the latter is better , however the latter is a bit more pricey although value wise it can be better , but then again being ripoff is possible.

    great food, great service

We ate at Darbar a week ago and the food was really nice. Portion was just right and service was excellent. Food was priced good, though maybe a little bit expensive for what it was, other than that it was great. A little tip: There are water bottles on the tables, they will replace them for colder ones, but if you don't want to pay for water (these bottled ones were $4 each!) just ask for tap water instead. We thought they'd come with the food as they were on the table already, but realised we had to pay. A bit dissapointed as tap water would have been good.

    Good food is here

Lamb Chops....Lamb Chops....you guys got to try them here. Darbar is a restaraunt with good place, friendly service and delicious food. My new hang out for lunch because of the super buffet choice. Other great factor is that lunch is served almost till 4.00 PM.
