fantastic
Best in NYC. thats it. if you are looking for bang for your buck, dont go to any restaurant, let alone Daniel. if you are looking for great food, service and ambience bring a lot of money and enjoy.

not worth a single star
this restaurant is way way overated. the food is just ok, or i should say this is the worst among all the michelin 3-star restaurants. may be because Daniel Boulud's opened up too many restaurants and don't care about this flagship any more, the quality is just as bad as my cooking. everyone who wants to go there should definitely look at the menu before even making reservation. and the tasting menu is what you should go for, if you didn't like any one course in the menu, don't even bother making reservation. most of the people go there are for the sake of "oh i've been to daniel" and they are not serious about food, not to mention "french cuisine", so i think this is fine for most of the people, but if you are serious about food, don't go there. dining at the bar should be a more interesting experience than in the main dining room, because the staffs are more friendly and more passionate, so i don't recommend making reservations, if someday you are around the area, can go directly to dine at the bar, nicer staffs and nicer service.

Nothing spectacular
The ambience great, the staff were very friendly and warm, the quality of food was however poor. I ordered the lamb, /guinea hen / shallots as part of our three-course fixed price menu, and I must say that is what nothing outstanding, just bland and unforgettable. Don't pay such a large price for the service alone, it's just not worth it.

Excellence
First, I must respond to "UGH", a few reviews down. Why would you claim to have spent $1000 when the tasting menu is $205 per person inclusive of paired wines? Makes your whole review unbelievable. Daniel is a classic NYC French restaurant. Yes, it's expensive, but, it is also well worth it. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended because this restaurant is very popular. If you're looking for a romantic restaurant with good food and service than look no further. Daniel is tops and will treat you well.

Wonderful Experience
This restaurant is on my list of TOP restaurants in New York. Absolutely, loved every single dish that we tried !! Very friendly staff and not your typical "stuffy atmosphere" - it was a very delightful experience and look forward to returning !!

excellent seasonal food
I thought it might be too "over designed" and stuffy but our party had a great time. we loved the special beach plum with the foie gras. I cant understand the other comment that they serve "ordinary" goose liver, since they get it from a local farm in the hudson river valley. the beach plums were also a one time only (due to limited quantity) from the wild shores of our great mid-atlantic region. Daniel is always about seasonal food and they surpassed my expectations. Also was surprisingly affordable!
