What happened to Cupcake Cafe?
I always viewed CC as dingy but quaint. Its been a while, but I visited the 42nd/9th location and wow! It was so dirty, an entire donut was sitting unnoticed on the floor. And it reeked... granted its a rainy day which might explain some dampness, but yuck. Even the bag that came w my cupcake was dirty! This is not how I remember CC. I havent eaten my cupcake yet, waiting for lunch time, I do know theyre on dry side, but still a nice indulgent treat. But the place is sorely in need of a good cleaning!

Awesome Cake
I ordered a cake here, not only did it looked beautiful, it was really yummy as well. Though the cakes are a bit pricy, it's totally worth it. I'm going to order my wedding cake from them! definitely loveeeed it!

Yes....sadly, they are all right
Did not want to believe the bad reviews til i tasted it myself. Wanted to buy a cake because i was blown away by their floral designs. I figured a cupcake would be a good barometer. It tasted like a dense poundcake with chocolate frosting on it. Not moist at all. It was very dry like all the other reviews had said.

Dissapointed
My fiance purchased a box of cupcakes for my 30th birthday party. He knows how much I usually rave about these cupcakes...when they are good, they are the best in NYC! But these cupcakes tasted old and dry, and they are expensive! I'm happy to pay the price when they're good, but this was so dissapointing, I don't know if I can trust them to go back. BTW, I suggest entering from the downtown direction to avoid an always shady area by the port authority.

Rude
The guy behind the counter at the 9th ave location is as rude as they come. Maybe he is allergic to sugar.

what happened?
For over a decade, the Cupcake Cafe has been my favorite dessert in the entire world. I often dream of the creamy buttercream icing, the prettty decorations, the cute flowers. My bridal shower cake was from here too, because all my friends know I ADORE the Cupcake Cafe..it was so good, everyone fought over the last few slices. I used to walk over and buy a cupcake after work when I had a bad day..it would get me through. What happened? I haven't had it in four years, and decided to drop in on their new digs on 9th avenue. I was initially impressed by the cute space. Their last store was a dump- dirty and ugly and always crowded. This new space is super cool, nicely decorated...one of the nicest coffee shops I have ever been in, in my humble opinion. The service was equally as gruff as I remembered. The guy behind the counter all but threw the cupcake at me today. But then, I remember the girls in the last shop were always overworked and pretty freaking unhelpful..they talked to you like they hated your presence and wanted nothing more than you to leave their sight. When you buy cupcakes, you want sweet, friendly Betty Crocker smiling at you and offering you some sunshine. This isn't a bar by the Port Authority..but a cupcake shop! Well the icing is still delicious..oh I love it! There is no place that makes it like they do. I have tried cupcakes almost everywhere, and this is some delicious icing. But the cupcake itself? Blech! It was so dry....are they having trouble selling them due to the recession or something? Are they leaving them out for a few days? Cupcakes are typically dry, though, no matter where you go. The only cupcake I have had recently that was moist was Two Little Hens. That cupcake is $5, so $2.50 more than Cupcake Cafe...but absolutely melt in your mouth divine. $5 for a cupcake is just plain obscene...but it was good. I remember when Cupcake cafe raised their prices from $1 to $2..I nearly cried right there in the shop that day. Now it is $2.50 I think. So go for a cappucino and the ambiance...and gaze at the pretty cupcakes. Maybe your experience will be different, and maybe you'll catch them on a day when the cupcakes are moist. I was pretty disappointed. My dream was shattered today.
