Amo la Cucina de Pesce!
There are so many mediocre Italian restaurants in NYC but Cucina is definitely a little hidden gem. The food is fabulous. I agree with one of the other reviewers...the seafood fettucini is my favorite dish too! Atmosphere is terrific, very romantic...nice place to take a date. From the outside the place seems tiny but they actually have more seating than you would think...there's a back room and they open up the backyard when it's nice so people can sit outside. And the prices...not bad at all!

Great place to eat, good food for a very good price, compared with other restaurants in the city.

AMEX ONLY!?!?!?!?!
Although my party and I were 20 minutes late for our reservation, the staff was wonderful and seated us within five minutes. The ambiance is quaint and yet still very pretty, dimly let with candles and surrounded by a great styled decor. Unfortunately, the food was not as great as I anticipated. The "butter" served with the bread was bland and the bread itself was nothing special and almost burnt around the outside. My party and I also ordered stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer they too, along with my spinach salad, were very taste-less and bland. For my main course, I ordered the pumpkin ravioli, which was delicious. Everything was priced very well, but aside from my entree, nothing was all that tasty. The big disappointment, however, came at the end of the night when we were informed that the restaurant ONLY took Amex and cash. We researched this restaurant online before attending, and nowhere on the website was this noted. This was not told to us on the phone when we made our reservation, nor was it mentioned to us by the waiter when we were seated. When we argued this with the manager, be brought over the menu to point out to us that it was in fact posted on the menu at the very bottom in small print. Because no one in my party had an American Express card on them, each of us had to take seperate trips to the ATM outside (in the freezing cold) around the corner, adding an extra twenty minutes onto our dining timeand we were already late for an event. At this point, the management was so rude and disrespectful, that I pretty much decided I would never be returning. This is 2008 and this is New York City. If you can't take other credit cards, then you sure as hell better make sure it's VERY VERY VERY WELL KNOWN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

What a lovely spot
Went here last night with four children and two adults for the early pre-fixe dinner for $12.95. I eat out at least 4 times a week and many of those meals are on expense account. I just loved this restaurant, The service was attentive and polite, the room was charming, warm and romantic with the lower east side age and feel. Now the food... it was outstanding. Italian food as it should be simple good ingredients prepared quickly and seved hot and that is exactly what you have here. Fresh, tasty and hot. The soup of the day was butternut squash and I think it was the best I ever tasted. I had the salmon with mushrroms and others had pasta dishes all to rave reviews. The sauces were never overwhelming and the portions were perfect. I just love this place and even the a la carte menu prices are a tremendous value.

Seafood Fettucini
I ate here last Saturday and the decor was splendid. Eating in the backyard was beautiful, though the table was a bit tiny and it got a bit chilly. The seafood fettucini was to die for. The cream was light yet very flavorful and the scallops were done just right. Not chewy like some other places. If you like seafood and a cream based sauce then I highly recommend this. (unfortunately, this is not on the early-bird menu. FYI early bird is from 3:00-6:30) The homemade tiramisu came in a big glass and could easily serve two. The creme brule was very good too. The pricing was very reasonable, especially for the great food, service and decor. The only downside was that you had to order bread and salad (other places usually give these as complimentary) and it gets a bit noisy and you might have to speak up.

question by waiter
I've eaten there many times because they have an early bird that's very good value for the food with tax about $14.00. Gave waiter a $20.00 bill and he had enough nerve to ask if I wanted change. A $6.00 tip he was suggesting is not the kind of question to ask a patron. Doubt if I will revisit.
