People seem to either love or hate Crumbs' cupcakes. I've read reviews that say they are to die for and others that say the cake is too dry or the icing too sweet. I had the fudge cupcake and I do not think the cake was too dry or the icing too sweet. However, I also did not think the cupcake was anything to rave about. It tasted kind of bland and generic. After each anti-climatic bite my tastebuds were left wondering, "that's it?" It was not chocolatey enough to fulfill my chocolate craving or sweet enough to satisfy my sweettooth. There was no urge to savour every bite. In fact, if I had not already shelled out almost $4 for the cupcake I probably would have bought another from a place I know has good cupcakes. That is what I like the least about the place-- the price. Granted, the cupcakes are huge, but the prices are so expensive (even for their cookies which, unlike the cupcakes, sizes do not seem to correlate with the prices). I would rather spend $2 for a cupcake half the size than $4 for a cupcake I do not even want to finish and (which size makes it impractical to finish). It is like they are compensating for the lack of taste with the size. On the positive side, the place has a nice atmosphere and would be a nice place to take a break. Their staff was friendly and helpful as well.
