Croton Reservoir Tavern

My co workers and I go here all the time for after work drinks. Fridays are the best when they have a dj and sometimes live music downstairs. I love their chocolate cake with espresso ice cream dessert. Never had a disappointing experience here although it can be packed and I highly suggest reserving a table on Friday nights.

This place is an overall disappointment. I've been a few times for work happy hours, and their drink specials downstairs are very decent ($6 wells, select bottles and drafts $4-$5). Their margarita looks and tastes like lime dish soap. I've heard the martinis are decent. Bar snacks are meh - the pizza and chicken poppers are the best of the lot. The hummus and calamari are bland. The house chips are good. I recently went for lunch and had the blackened chicken rosemary focaccia sandwich. The chicken wasn't blackened, it had a coating of Chachere's or similar cajun seasoning but still managed to be bland. The bread had a couple flecks of rosemary, also flavorless. A huge lump of rubbery mozzarella and some sundried tomatoes, which was all you could taste bc the tomatoes were there only thing with flavor. Service is lacking. The bartenders sometimes act hassled, and the waiter at my lunch was efficient but not at all warm. I once tipped the gentleman clearing our table at happy hour and he made we walk with him to the bartenders to show them. It was super peculiar. The happy hour DJ plays an odd assortment of music, I guess to please a wide audience. I could do without it. I'll be back for post-work drinks, but never again for food.

Service sickeningly slow. Food below expectations.

I order dinner at least 3x a week from this establishment for myself and coworkers. If I have to already be working late at least 3X a week, I at least want to enjoy a nice meal and have it promptly delivered and correct. I am very upset about my most recent order. It came in and was wrong. On top of starving to death and waiting for the correct meal to be delivered, I was charged again for the meal that should have been delivered to me in the first place. This is highly erroneous and not good restaurant etiquette. I had to waste even more time arguing with the delivery person and calling back the god damn restaurant. I have major deadlines to finish and I don't want to deal with this. Especially since I'm sure that I have charged at least $800 to this place in the last 2 weeks. Also, food has lately sub par. This is unacceptable considering the price that I am willing to pay for skirt steaks and scallops. I may sound extremely bitter, and you are correct. I am pissed that I am expending further energy writing this god damn review as I NEVER write reviews. But this is just ridiculous and has to be mentioned. For people who want retarded service and sub par expensive food, you've come to the right place.

What happened to this place? Used to be a good place for lunch; but when the hostess can't seem to pull herself away from leaning on the podium to greet diners... Come on! You're not cheap, your diners deserve better. The burgers and steak meat was still good, but the rolls and buns were burned and the slaw was the worst.

Work down the street from this easy-to-walk-by place. Lunch is great if it's on a corp. card. Recommend the crab cakes to start and steak frites for entree. Not the best steak I've eaten in the city but they dress it up with blue cheese and butter.

I wasn't expecting the food here to be good. I went in there to meet up with friends for drinks and afterwards, we sat down to eat. The atmosphere is a little bit noisy but the food is excellent. The waitress was friendly and the service was good. I would definitely go back for dinner and drinks.
