    Disappointed

Crispo came with a high recommendation, so after a long-standing reservation we were excited for a wonderful evening. The food was delicious (though certainly not the best food I've ever had in NYC), but the atmosphere was very harried and hectic. Our table was rather cramped between the side wall and a busy aisle. I ordered a Cosmopolitan drink to start, which came in a nice-sized martini glass. After I'd had 2 sips a busboy bustled through and knocked my elbow, splashing much of my drink onto the table. He was too busy to notice. My husband called the waitress over. She nicely cleaned up the table and took the drink away. My husband and I had both worked in restaurants for many, many years, and know that the proper way to deal with something like this is simply to bring a new drink. Well, she returned with the same glass containing a little bit more drink, and the color of the cocktail was just darker red, meaning that only more cranberry juice had been added. This is just lousy service, but we really didn't want to make a fuss and complain in the midst of closely spaced tables. We waited until we were leaving to quietly and nicely speak with the manager about the incident -- just making sure he knew what went on on the floor, knowing that he would realize right away that it had been handled incorrectly.

Romantic European lair on 14th St

My boyfriend made a reservation for a date, but the local remained a surprise until we arrived at Crispo. The place is definitely very unique with old world European charm and decor while remaining unpretentious. There are actually many rooms at the place, I would recommend sitting in the back by the fire place. The menu is huge, and our waiter was very attentive, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic answering my many questions. The food was really yum! We started with the hot stuffed peppers and the Arugula Salad, Ceci Beans, Ricotta Salad. I had the Branzini special, and my boyfriend had the veal saltimboca. Everything was really good and you could tell the ingredients were really fresh. I couldn't have asked for a better place in Manhattan to spend a romantic evening with the one I love.

    Great Find!

Funny how you can walk past a place a million times and never see it. That all changed tonight. Walked in and was transported to a delightful restaurant. Loved it.

Good food, fun atmosphere... GREAT wine

Fabulous restaurant. Large menu - lots to choose from. Wine is very reasonable and excellent quality. Rustic feel to the main dining room - sort of felt like we were really in Italy.. Can't wait to go back..

Keeps me coming back for more!

Several friends and I found ourselves stumbling into this 14th Street gastronomical Utopia this Friday past very much to everyone's delight. I've been to Crispo’s before--many times--and it has always been a memorable experience. Of course no visit to Crispo's is ever complete for me without some sort of prosecutor based appetizer; this time around I coupled it with some sopprosotta, grapes and the finest Regiano cheese anywhere. The veal breast parmagana with buffalo mozzarella entry special won my favor and wow is all I can say! It's hard no to mention value because you get much much more than what you pay for but in mentioning value I do want to suggest that the extraordinary reasonable (relative to the quality of the ingredients) prices is what brought our party to Crispo’s. We were each armed with expense accounts and not afraid to use them. We also had from among many alternatives to choose but chose Crispo’s because we wanted to eat great Italian food; and we were not disappointed. Our waiter was very nice but could have been a bit more attentive—methinks he was preoccupied with rehearsing lines in his mind. Overall great experience and my hat’s off to the coat check women—no pun intended.

    LOVED it!

I ate here last night for the 1st time & the food & atmosphere were amazing!!! I recommend the veal with the lemon & asparagus & for desert, the zeppoles with the chocolate *if that's your thing* lol This is probably the best Italian restaurant in NY that I've been to so far. I would definitely like to go back! & I like that they serve Northern Italian/Mediterranean food *& portions* LOVED IT!!!
