I love the food at Crispo, and the ambience there is great. Unfortunately, I agree with other reviewers that the service needs improvement. Particularly the host, who does not seem to be able to manage the seating situation. We waited almost an hour after our reservation time to be seated, and the host somehow tried to turn the tables on us when we inquired about our table. The servers are hit or miss. Some are attentive and friendly, others are aloof. Management needs to step it up and focus on better service.

Ate here for the 3rd time & enjoyed it just as much as I did the 1st & 2nd times. Each time, we were all impressed by the food & especially the atmosphere. I've sat in the Garden room all 3 times, but the other 2 times were during the winter, when that room is warm & toasty b/c of the heaters & the fireplace. Candles & the waterfall set the romantic mood. But now that the weather is warmer, the garden room has turned into a wonderful Italian escape. The waterfall is very soothing & the fans keep it breezy. Again though, the service from the main waiter was poor. They tend to be inattentive & have little personality. It's very disappointing as it ruins an almost perfect experience. But either way, I can't wait to go back...although I will definitely be having a different meal, b/c I have the veal & zeppoles every time. It's good...but time for a change. =)

Went on a Friday night date to Crispo last week. We were seated promptly at our reserved time, and the patio was so adorable. It was cold outside, but the heat was on in the patio area, and the temperature was perfect. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable explaining the intracacies of the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and a hot & sweet soprassetta plate with a few cheeses as an appetizer. It could have easily served 4 people. My fiance, usually a picky eater, got a veal dish with fontina and potato croquettes and devoured it! My pasta special with a mushroom parmiagan and sage sauce was fabulous as well. The pasta melted in my mouth and the mushroom sauce was very deep and meaty. For desset we got a few of the chocolate walnut cookies and shared the creme brulee with chocolate mousse-esq accompanyment--it was great! We will definitely be back to Crispo.

In response to the "crazy woman" who wrote the previous review, I am not sure where she dined on Saturday night, but it sure as heck wasnt Crispo! First of all Crispo never once in as many years as I have been going there had "2", i quote, tables on a Saturday night! They do over 300 covers ever single Saturday, and the food rarely, if ever, misses a beat. .... The fact that she didnt get a garden seat is just too bad...... And why would you ever get a comp becasue you couldnt get the seat you wanted.....please..... you would just be hurting yourself if you didnt go back, It is one of the best resatuarants in the city,. I eat there atleast 2 or 3 times a week!

I had been very impressed with the quality of the food here twice before. The service and atmosphere were always agreeable. However, my last experience there was extremely disappointing. I'm afraid that it was disappointing enough never to return. We called the hostess to politely ask if she might seat us at as nice a table as possible--in the garden if it was available. She brusquely told us that all she could do was request such a thing. We were appreciative. When we arrived and were seated, we nicely asked the hostess who greeted us if we could sit at a table in the garden. She told us, "No. Sorry. We have no available tables." She walked away without another word. There were exactly two tables full in the dining room at that time--10 pm. We were patient and thought that the tables would surely be full in the next little while. Otherwise, they would never have had a reason to deny us our request. The tables remained empty. The restaurant continued to become emptier and emptier. Our meal was lovely. Our server was wonderful--attentive, gracious, and polite. I felt so comfortable with her that I decided to let her know how disappointed we were with the blatantly poor service we had received from the hostesses that evening. She was extremely sympathetic. She sent over a manager, who, though well-intentioned, was no seasoned restaurant manager. She listened well and apologized nicely, but promised us that "next time we came in, she would definitely take care of us". She said that she had no idea why we would ever have received such poor treatment and that she would "talk to the hostesses". Any manager with half an ounce of finesse and experience would have offered to comp at least a round of drinks or dessert. (Most I know would have comped the entire $120 bill.) We had already paid our bill and would have refused the comp. We were not looking for a free meal. We will not return to Crispo, however.

My husband and I have been going to Crispo regularly for the last 4 years and, without fail, every single meal is excellent. Whether we go with our friends or clients, no matter how small or large a group of people are at our table, Crispo never disappoints. The quality of food is always consistent: excellent. The servers (Cory is our favorite) couldn't be more attentive, the pacing of courses is just right, and the overall atmosphere is great. While the main dining room can sometimes get a little loud, we love eating in the dining alcove off the main dining room and especially love eating in the back garden open all year round. We highly recommend this place if you want to have a truly delicious meal on a date or impress your clients.

Second time here...went right around Valentines Day & the food & atmosphere was still excellent, but the service was also still disappointing & slow. Either way, the food is delicious & totally worth the price. It's also great for a romantic date with a loved one.
