$50 for Delivery?!! Goodbye Crif Dogs!

I am outraged. Beyond outraged. I've been eating and ordering delivery from Crif Dogs for 8 years now, since shortly after they opened. I've even written a stellar review here previously, a long while ago. I was still ordering their food last week, when the minimum delivery was supposedly $20. And that was difficult for me. Veggie dogs and fries don't stay well in the fridge. Two months ago, they told me the minimum delivery was $15. And before that, there was no minimum delivery. What on earth? Terrible way to do business, particularly in this economy, when less people are choosing to spend money to order food from restaurants. But now, Crif Dogs has truly done something so ridiculous and so horrific, that I question their sanity and suggest they all go see a psychiatrist. I went to place my order per usual, like I do about every other week. And the woman answering the phone told me to hold on, because she wanted to check the delivery area. I said to her that I realize the minimum delivery went up to $20, as I order there every week or every other week. She said, "Hold on a second. Hold on!" annoyed with me. And I was simply trying to make things easier for her, so she didn't have to worry about doing any research. Then she said, "I have to check with the kitchen. They gave us a new map, and it's very clear where the delivery cut-offs are." So I said, "Well, did the delivery cut-offs change since 2 weeks ago? Because that is when I last ordered." And she said, "Well, nothing changed. But we have to be more strict about where we deliver to. We may have delivered to you before, because whoever took the call would just place the order. And we can't call you back and tell you we aren't going to deliver your order, after we already took the order." So she said, "Hold on, I can't take your order until I ask them." I waited a while. She came back on and said, "It's a $50 minimum delivery charge." I thought I had heard incorrectly. Maybe I need to clean my ears. She said again, "50 bucks. That's the delivery charge. Do you still want delivery?" No, of course I don't want delivery! You people have gone mad! I asked her what exactly was the street cut-off that would make things change from a $20 minimum delivery fee to a $50 minimum delivery free. She told me it was MY BLOCK that was the cut-off. The line goes down the center of my block. Not even at an actual street. Just in between two blocks. And they are not avenue blocks. Will never eat there again.

    For The college-goers and alumni

Sure it's ok food. Really silly "hip" surroundings complete with old videogames. How many hundreds of places on st. marks did this since 1990. It's really just for college kids and people in their 30s who went there when they were students. The shh... don't tell place? Don't worry dude, I won't tell. Who are you trying to keep out? It's the urban outfitters of hotdogs. Go to nathans, papaya dog, papaya king, or the ultimate, grays papaya. Now that place has a real scene, much more interesting (albeit often wacko) people hang out there. Way more fun, 3 times as cheap.

    $20 minimum delivery? ridiculous!

after years of going to crif dogs and having them deliver to my les apartment, i called today and was shocked to discover their delivery minimum had now changed to $20! how absurd! i'm a single lady living in a studio apartment in nyc - how am i supposed to pay 20 bucks (plus tip) for what would be an order for at least 4 hot dogs?! nonetheless eating all 4 hot dogs. i think we can all say from prior experience that cooked bacon does NOT microwave well. really disappointed by crif dogs now. i wish that dash dogs had never disappeared from the les now...

    Great, but prepare to Wait

This place must be pretty popular on the delivery circuit because every time I go, in the middle of the day 5-6pm, there are about 5 people sitting down and it takes FOREVER to get your food. Think Shake Shack. But like Shake Shack the food is ALWAYS worth the wait. The trick is to know how to order because they have some hidden gems and combination on the menu. Love it. With this place in town I would never eat a hot dog anywhere else, bring your wallet though.

    Disappointing

Crif Dogs used to be an amazing idea after a long night of partying but after tonight I beg to differ. The service was disappointing, they lost our order which lead for a long wait. The staff was abrasive instead of accomodating. The hot dogs were not as good as they used to be... thank god for tater tots which are the only saving grace for a hot dog joint that has gone sour.... Better off spending your money at the pizza joint around the block. Oh and god forbid a fire breaks out... good luck!

    What happened?

Was pleased to be able to get into the speakeasy with a not so long wait. So dark couldn't see to read the menu. Food was nothing as I remembered. It was cold- a cold hot dog on a cold doughy bun, tater fries that were frozen tater tots-absolutely tasteless, cold and missing the cheese had ordered. Service was pleasant. Hostess? standing sentry was military. Embarrassed that this was my recommendation.

Is it like it used to be again?

Used to be my favorite place to eat on Friday nights. Loved the deep-fried bacon wrapped dogs. the atmosphere was cool too. With fun tattooed punkrock girls running the counter, and beer. However last time I ate there the punkgirls were gone and the service was poor. They screwed up my order putting mustard on it. When I sent it back I could tell they just wiped off the same dog they brought the first time. Also they didn't have beer! And they were so busy buzzing yuppies into some half-assed speakeasy through the phone booth that the food service was suffering. Haven't been back since. was my favorite place! Bring back the beer, the punk girls and the better service, or lose all your loyal customers.
