Crepes on Columbus

5 stars but there is a HUGE caveat! I order from here all the time...it is like my substitute kitchen. The menu overall is great...love the salads...love the butternut squash and kidney bean soups (fresh, no creams, oil, and other junk). But, alas, you come here for the crepes. The sweet crepes are divine...BUT when made well. The biggest problem with this restaurant is that it is INCONSISTENT. When the crepes are made well, they are the best. But, on a few occassions, they have not been made well...they have been burnt/crisp/tough. As one reviewer alluded to, the cooks prepare them differently. If it is your first time, you will think they are the best crepes in the city. But, it is definitely hit, miss, hit if you come here frequently. After having such a great experience you want to come again only to be disappointed that it was not made the same way as last time. The owner is really laid back so I can see why their is no cooking discipline. Recently had one of the same crepes I ordered a few days prior that I inhaled (because it was decadent) but this time is was overcooked and burnt..I was so shocked and upset! Will not hesitate to ask for a REDO going forward.

This is a place we order in from regularly. The Tropical Salad is refreshing, the sandwiches are tasty (try the Roast Beef) and the crepes are totally yummy. We are consistently satisfied with our meals!

OK, listen up. Here's the quintessential review of this place. Trust me, I've been going there for like 2 years now because it's the only real restaurant in the area. Because of that, it gets away with being mediocre a lot of the time. We don't have any other choice! That's the only reason I go there as much as I do. I don't have time or motivation to walk over to Amsterdam or Broadway - lol. Like a bad show, this place would NEVER survive on Broadway. -) The food is usually good - but it's inconsistent. They have a few different cooks - some of them are better than others. Interestingly, the owner IS one of the cooks and frankly, if he's cooking, I take a walk! He should leave the cooking to the guys who know how to do it better. The service is kind of inconsistent too, although it's been better in recent months since some of their new servers seem to know what they're doing. The service is better earlier in the week, during the day - like Monday-Wednesday. The rest of the time is sort of a service crapshoot. Sometimes the owner IS the server - if that's the case, be prepared. He's attentive enough I guess, but very creepy. Weekend brunch is not good. There's no good reason to go on a Saturday or Sunday. The place is way too crowded and busy, and the kitchen just can't seem to keep up with the demand. All the staff are always really stressed, and the owner/manager seems to be the source of all the angst. Basically, I try to go to this place only on weekdays when the owner ain't there - it's just better at those times.

The crepes were the best I have had in the US. They are thin (as they should be - they are not american pancakes although they do make those also) and fresh (not pre-made). The crepe filings were of good quality and, again very fresh. The waiting staff were friendly and polite. I would have liked to seen more options for filings, such as garlic, gouda, tuna, olives....etc. Also, the portions were a bit too big for me and that there was a little too much filling in the crepes. I did not eat all of mine. My boyfriend ate all of his because "it was so good it was worth the pain".

Just wanted to add another good review here. Place is great for brunch. Went on a Sunday morniing it wasn't too crowded. The crepes were fabulous, both the savory and sweet ones. Service was attentive and friendly, not pushy at all. Will definitely be coming back here!
