SUPRISED! Have not seen any restaurant do so much with ambiance in such an inconspicuous location. The restaurant had a comfortable lounge feeling that my invited dining guests enjoyed - 10 of us. The service was very hospitable and who appeared to be the manager was on top of his game. Above the noise, it seemed that he could hear whispers and had the service help jumping to the beat of the guests. Everything was perfectly timed. It was one of those restaurants where I actually got above and beyond what I paid for. The value of the food, the location, and the libations far exceeded the cost of my evening. When dining, one must DEVOUR the mussels bruchetta, savor the honey bbq shrimp, murder for the shrimp roasted chicken and the salad dressings, I wanted to take some home to share with other friends and family. Creole Restaurant is my new kitchen and living room. I will be visiting regularly.

at the other reviews. I've lived in this neighborhood for six years, and Creole is probably the best addition we've had so far. The food is very good. The service...yes, it can be spotty, but the management/kitchen staff makes up for it. The first time I ate there was Novemeber 04 (right after they opened). I was actually walking with a date. My date didn't eat meat and I didn't know if he'd find something at a creole place (like I said, I'd never been before)...luckily, a memeber of the kitchen staff was standing outside smoking a cigarette so we were able to ask about a veggie dish. He told us to go inside and he'd send us the chef. Which he did. The chef then prepared my date an amazing dish with goat cheese and grilled veggies (I forget what the sides were). I had the catfish, which, by the way, my date ended up finishing because the portion was so large--he devoured what I couldn't--despite the fact that he usually hates fish! Over the months I've become hooked on the crabcakes and the spinach salad. That's generally how I eat, so I've sampled most of the appetizers...and can't really complain about any of them. It is a little expensive for the neighborhood, but it's still pretty cheap compared to restaurants in the rest of the city. My only complaint, really, would be that there is live music every night, and personally, when I go out to dinner, I like to talk to my friends, not listen to a band. If they had a night or two without music, I'd probably go there more often, instead of just picking up my food to go. Also, it would be nice if they actually delivered, but I luckily live down the street so it's not a huge deal for me--except when there's snow on the ground!

I too was excited to have a nice restaurant open up a few blocks from my apartment in a neighborhood bogged down with Chinese and Fried Chicken places. I found a lunch menu for this place stuck under my door and went there with those prices in mind. Big mistake. The dinner prices are a lot more expensive and honestly the food doesn't merit the expense. The food is so so. It is beautifully presented but a little bland and not at all creole. The gumbo is good if you get the kitchen on a good night, I must say though the chicken wings are out of this world. The drinks are also incredible. Add the live jazz on the weekends and you've got a decent spot. I have been to Creole over a half dozen times on the same night and the staff has NEVER been the same. They were nice enough but seemed to have been given a notepad and an apron that day without a chance to look at the menu. The manager was a sweetie and very receptive. Last time I went they were going to start charging a $20 cover after 8:00 or so. That's a little rediculous. I know you have musicians, but what if I just want to grab a bite to eat? I have never heard of paying a cover for a restaraunt. They need to stick to having a bucket up front for the band or else loose the band altogether because the soul music they play on the stereo is just fine. I'd rather buy another drink with that $20.

We were very excited to try this restaurant in our neighborhood but were disappointed at the service, the price and the quality. Food took a long time to arrive and did not merit the prices. Cat fish was overdone and chicken was bland. Decent atmosphere and great live music but it did not compensate for the poor service. After providing feedback, the manager was not receptive and failed to address our concerns by dismissing our comments. We’ve never felt the interest to go back.

I had catfish with rice and beans and collard greens. Rice was hard and lacked flavor. Catfish was relatively bland, and greens, well they're not your southern style greens. Only upside - price is good for lunch fare and portion is just right.
