Things have changed at Craft
I have been to Craft many times and have grown to expect great things--attentive service, delicious food, lovely ambience. Tonight, while the ambience was great as always, everything else was not good. We waited 30 minutes for each course. By the time our first course was served, we had eaten an entire loaf of bread and could not even begin to enjoy our (very spendy) food. The salads were so overly salty that they were nearly inedible. The mains were bland after the salt on the salad, and the sides were lovely, but we were too full to even eat them. One of our sides arrived a full 10 minutes after everything else, and we had multiple waiters asking us questions that had been answered by previous waiters. It is not the type of experience you expect from a restaurant that charges $125 for a steak--and I will pay anything for a great steak. In the end, we wished that we had spent our $300 (for two) at somewhere with first class service and food.

Overrated
I was looking forward to eating at Craft for weeks. I have never been so disappointed. Despite the really nice, modern atmosphere, i thought the dining experience was average - at best. The food was edible, but the portions were tiny, and the service was not what i would have expected for those prices. The sides were subpar (we had the japanese eggplant - there were literally 5 pieces on the plate - for $16!), the main courses weren't even hot and the salads were tiny and tasteless! I would have paid 100 for the food and experience, but our tab came to $250 for dinner and (not a lot of ) drinks!

Fabulous
I dined at Craft for the first time in June. The food was outstanding. The ambiance was wonderful along with the service. Yes, it is a little pricey, but it's worth every penny and we are in Manhattan. I highly recommend Craft.

Perfect
Most of these people do not know what they are talking about. I had the best dining experience i have ever had at Craft. Ok, it was a little expensive, but the quality of the food was only surpassed by our experienced server.

Disappointed
Everyone in my party of 8 was disappointed. This was a very special birthday and I coordinated with the restaurant's staff in advance to make sure they understood how important it was that everything turn out well. Turns out they didn't seem to care. The menu they faxed me in the afternoon so I could order all dishes in advance turned out -- when we got there -- to have been the menu for the prior day, so 2 of the dishes were not available. No apology. Two entrees were so oversalted that we sent them back. Again, no apology, no one seem to have cared, no one made any particular effort even to smile. In general, the food was mediocre and the service poor and grudging. The decor was unusual and beautiful (although I found the leather walls a bit creepy) but no match for the prices, attitude, and unremarkable food.

What happened to the prices!
Have they've nearly doubled in a year or two? I was willing before to overlook some of the blander vegetable or overly oily mushroom dishes when they were more reasonable. That said, still the best potato puree I've ever had and the dining room continues to impress.
