I just had my first dinner experience at Craft and must say everything was superb; the ambience was great, with tables spaced far apart so your conversation is kept just at your table. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and patient and walked us through all the choices, including the spices and flavors in each dish. Great choices of wine, even by the glass. And the food! Craft is unusual; it's a place where you design your own dinner. When you order side dishes, (which are served to be shared by others at your table, please order the gnocchi - never in my life have i eaten anything like these, light as air and melts in your mouth. The sauteed mushrooms (there were 3 varieties this evening, can be combined into an order containing all three(as suggested by our waiter.) We also had Delicata pureed squash, which was great. I don't eat meat, but my friend said the steak was delicious; I had lobster in a delicate, delicious light sauce. For dessert we had a variety of 3 cheeses (they bring their entire cheese selection to your table and describe each of them). My friend indulged and also ordered a dessert with brioche, caramel leche ice cream and something comparable to bananas Foster, but better. The latter was served with separate small pitchers of caramel sauce and a chocolate sause. They also served 3 amuse bouche, each better than the one before. This restaurant is truly great (I've lived and eaten in nyc my entire life and think thas might have been the best meal ever). Reservations must be made about 4 weeks in advance and the luxury of this food does not come inexpensively. For a special occassion, save up and go here. I don't think you'll regret it, but remember it is costly.

A warning for anyone dining at craft: the portions are large. Our waiter advised us that most people order a first course, second course, a vegetable, and a potato entree. We had three people at our table and we all ordered accordingly. Well, we had enough food to eat 3 meals! We could have easily gotten away with ordering half of what we did. The service was extremely professional, although we felt a little uncomfortable at times because they keep such a close eye on you at all times. I wish I would have had room for dessert, we were given a small chocolate tart compliments of the chef, and it was awesome! I would have paired it with the pistachio ice cream if I would have had room. The meal was great, the service exceptional. The only thing I would have changed was not to have ordered so much food!

I was so looking forward to this dinner. I went to the same culinary school as the pastry chef but was so unimpressed with the food in general I wasn't sure if I even wanted to try dessert. The food was nothing special and overpriced for what it was. Very disappointing.

...bliss. Two nights later and I still keep thinking about how wonderful it was. Save up. Go. Enjoy.

This might be the best restaurant my husband and I have ever visited. Everything from the drinks to dessert was wonderful. The service was great. We did have to wait almost 30 minutes for a table (we had a reservation), but that was o.k. Major recommendation - the gnocchi and the blueberry/peach crisp w/ vanilla ice cream.

I had dinner here last week and it was incredible. It seems impossible but every single thing they put on the table is great. I was there for a business dinner and was a little worried because I was entertaining serious foodies together with a few picky "meat and potatoes" types. Amazingly, both groups found something they absolutely loved. While leaving a little to be desired, the service was adequate for the most part. However, the food shines enough to make up for almost any deficit in service.

This was my fourth visit over the past year or so. The food is always exquisitely prepared then beautifully served in copper pots making this my favorite "special treat" restaurant in the city. Their various mushroom dishes are mind blowing! This place, although pricey, is a must do!
