    Disappointing

Just went with a group of friends to Cowgirl because the menu looked great. Except for the macaroni and cheese, which we all loved, the rest of the food was a total disappointment. One friend and I both got the BBQ Beef Sandwich which were drenched in barbecue sauce and could barely be eaten - and extra sauce was provided on the side! Another friend got the Cajun Fried Chicken which was not at all spicy. Chips with Black Eyed Peas instead of Salsa was a nice change of pace, but if you're looking for great barbecue, this is not the place to go.

10% delivery charge for orders over $40!

Cowgirl has a fairly decent menu of choice -- including a few outstanding items: * Beef chili dinner with cornbread side - [ outstanding ]. * Blueberry Peach Cobbler - [ excellent]. * Iced tea - [ good and not watered down like most places]. Where Cowgirl truly fails is in the service and delivery categories. We actually stopped dining in because of the poor in-restaurant service. Also, a recent delivery order that totaled a little more than $45 was hit with an additional 10 percent delivery charge of $4.50. So, if you order $100 worth of food, you will also have to pay an additional $10 delivery charge! We called and talked to "The Manager" -- whom was very nice and listened to our concerns -- but informed us, "That's the way it is -- it's even printed on the delivery menu." Well, maybe they should also print, "If you're getting delivery, don't get more than $40 worth of food because you'll have to pay our 10% delivery charge which is even printed on each and every one of our menus." Anyway, try the beef chili dinner and cobbler dessert, just don't order more than $40 worth...

Great place for a privat party!

I had a suprise party here for my parents a couple of weeks ago. It was fabulous! The private room is perfect for about 30 people--everything was great--the food, the service, the flowers on the tables. The do a buffet and everyone loved it--the grits and biscuits are amazing! And the scrambled eggs were the best I ever had from a buffet. And for dessert they made a cupcake tower with carrot/applesauce cupcakes to die for. Devra was a pleasure to work with--she organizes all of the parties. The price is very reasonable--much less than other places I looked at to do the brunch like Jane and Sarabeth--and the room is much nicer! If you're throwing a party--be sure to check out cowgirl!

    Mediocre

The food was mediocre, corn bread was not good and the macaroni/cheese was completely dry. Plus we were astonished when the waitress said she wanted a TIP! Poor food and service....this place is not recommended.

The Best southern cookin' - You Gotta Go

I'm over the moon about this place ! I grew up in Austin, Texas, lived here in New York City for 6 years, haven't been able to find a decent Southern soul food type restaurant. Was settling for Chat N Chew in union square, which is pretty good, I'll give them that. But forget Chat N Chew! This is my new favorite restaurant! First of all, their margaritas are TO DIE FOR! I drink a lot of margaritas & I swear this takes the cake. Had a strawberry one, GREAT strawberry flavor w/ real strawberry, nice amount of alcohol, served in a delightful mason jar -- my grandmother used to drink out of them all the time, made me feel very nostalgic. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and corn. The best part, and southerners will know what i'm talking about, was the CREAM GRAVY. NOWHERE else in New York City have I found REAL SOUTHERN CREAM (COUNTRY) GRAVY! I was in heaven. The mashed potatoes were heaven, perfect portions. Topped it off with the Brownie A La Mode. Was a perfect way to end the dinner. My friend was on a diet, she got a chicken caesar . . . can't really mess that up, she said it was great. The service was perfect. I drink A LOT of water, he was always there to fill up my glass even though it was very busy. Also it has such a HOME feeling. Great atmosphere, really just such a delightful experience, I can't recommend it more. Going to be back MANY times over the summer. Really, go try it for yourself. And get a margarita. Wish they were cheaper. Maybe they have a happy hour, gotta look into it.

Very yummy food with a great atmosphere!

From the two time I have visited Cowgirl..I have had only positive experiences with the food as well as the staff. Both times I had three appatizers; the sweet potatoe fries, black bean quesidellas, and the cajan fried shrimp. The food as well as the great salsa and chips were strongly approved by my family and myself. My personal favorite is the sweet potatoe fries...ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Both times we were 30 minutes early for our reservation and both times we got put into a booth 25 minutes early than our reservation had been set for. The staff was fun and friendy and they made our experience much more enjoyable.
