I've had them all folks - I'll tell you this. This burger could sell for twice as much and the line would be just as long. A Perfect Burger Joint, with all the early colony vibe that makes the west village so groovy. No where near "dive" status. This joint is a true relic. You cannot find finer in the finest city on earth.

Maybe it's just an NYC thing and not being from it I'll never understand, but I've definitely had better burgers before. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this burger. Real juicy perfectly cooked meat, cheese and bacon. Nothing bad about it but just nothing that makes me crave going back there anytime soon. Probably just a one time thing to see the institution. BUT the beer - best deal in the city. So cheap, and I love a dive so if you can get in and get a seat drink away.

I now I shouldn't but I cannot resist that red neon sign on the corner of W4th and Jane. My wife does not let me eat red meat because of my IBS but sometimes it's worth it. So while a bistro burger for 6 bucks may mean a night on the couch I say cheers and let's have another Mcsorley's.

One reviewer below asks: how good can a burger get? The reason these burgers deserve their reputation is that not only are they huge and juicy...they have the incredible home-grilled taste of really good family BBQ burgers. I order mine with extra pickles. With $2 beers (in the West Village!), a pleasantly dingy atmosphere, great fries and a great jukebox, this place would rate a 10 if it weren't for the long lines, fratty clientele and harried, (legitimately) resentful waitstaff. As is, go for a late Sunday lunch or after 1 am on a weeknight to avoid the crowds and sate your craving.

I tried Pete's (tasteless beef/ugly fat fries) Island Burgers (Why no fries?) okay, PJ Clarke's. For about 20, only Paul Newman and the Boss can afford this mediocre burger with lousy servers. Corner Bistro has class, Big Nick's has none, but man those burgers are great too, except I Ilove only shoestring fries. Brooklyn Diner: okay at best. Burger Heaven, good. Jackson Hole, too big and not tasty. BUT I love funky NYC bars that are virtual dumps and I must rate Corner Bistro Numero Uno.

Legends don't have to be great or even good at all points on the chart. If they are what they advertise: cheap cold beer and good burgers, no attitude (well, mabye a little: just the "hectic I'm so busy" attitude--not the "I can't believe she's wearing that top with those shoes" attitude). I love this place. If you are going because you want to experience real people in a real city with a burger & a beer, you'll LOVE it!!!

Ok, for some reason I do not see how these are the best burgers in nyc. My boyfriend loves this place and when I finally went there, the hamburger had a huge piece of gristle in it, and well after that I was alittle turned off by the thing. Needless to say there fries are good, mcdonalds quality. Its a good dive bar to hang out in but honestly, what are all these people talking about??!!
