Unappetizing burger ever, and poor service to beat.

The burger supposedly medium rare, came out rare, with onion rings and onions over the burger itself. It was the most tasteless burger I have eaten - absolutely no seasoning.

    Accidental Diner.....

Stumbled across Coogan's while on a walk through Washington Heights with with a city photographer. Talk about the luck of the Irish! Music was perfect....taking us back to the days of lights out in the basement dancing....and the food was perfectly prepared. Little annoying bits of change to the menu, by me, were prepared with a smile. Wait staff was helpful and polite. Have just found my favorite Washington Heights restaurant! By the by, patrons there were also friendly....must be something in the air there.

Never will order from here again

So they don't deliver to 177st. To get around this I offered to tip their delivery boy $10, which they were fine with. Great, so far so good. I order the BBQ baby-back ribs with french fries - poorest I have ever had. The amount of fries is an absolute joke in contrast to the amount of ribs it comes with. The fries were soggy and bland, and made me feel like they were just reheated and were definitely not cooked specifically for my order. The ribs were definitely reheated. The BBQ sauce on them was very thick, and it smothered every inch of the ribs. As I ate, I noticed the outside of the rib was warm, but as I got deeper into the rib, it was cold - tell tale sign this was reheated and they couldn't even do that properly. I threw the food away, all of it. First and last time ordering from the place, which is a shame.

    Getting the take-out order right

Trying to get your order over the telephone correct can be trying. the female that answers the phone gets about 75-80% of the order correct. She does not know the menu. Trying to get the "manager" to help is useless. Be very careful what you order!

Great food, drinks, but delivery area too small

We love going to Coogan's for lunch or dinner, or even drinks. The Coogan's Ale is good, and you can't go wrong with a lot of the food. One thing I would like to see expanded is its delivery range. While another five blocks would cover us, really they should expand it another 20 or so in my opinion.

Best burger / reminds me of Jersey

It's too hard to rate this place accurately as I only went there tonight to have a beer and get some food to go, but I was impressed with what I experienced. I'm from Jersey and just moved to the Heights so it's really nice to find a Jersey-like Irish bar/restaurant in this area. Great atmosphere and truly a one-of-a-kind place in its neighborhood. While I was there I had a Guinness, which the bartender poured correctly, and took home some mozzarella sticks and the Captain Jack burger. The bartender was great for the 10 mins I spent with him, the place had a good crowd for a Friday night and the burger is quite possibly one of the best I've ever had. I really didn't expect it to be so good, especially with a 10-minute walk home, but it greatly exceeded my expectations. All in all, in the short period of time I was there, I had great, accurate and quick service, experienced an atmosphere unlike any other in the area, and had a fantastic burger. I will definitely be going back, not only because it reminds me of my hometown bars, but because it's a great hangout for any night or any sporting event and the burger is amazing. I'm pretty sure that Coogan's is about to become my new favorite place. The only negative thing I could say is that it's pricey for the Heights, but no more expensive than anywhere else in Manhattan or even Jersey for that matter. And I'm taking a half star away from food quality because the marinara sauce that came with the mozzarella sticks was not the best and tasted a little bit strange, but it wasn't bad.

Classic Americana, forget about delivery though

If you want a beer and some hot fattening food while watch a game then this is your spot. Though it's a LITTLE expensive for what it is. regarding delivery: they probably should just come out and say that they don't deliver. They only will go within 3 blocks of the restaurant and when I called at 9PM to have dinner delivered to my office (working late), they said that they had stopped delivering for the night. 9PM? Really?
