Eating in Chinatown is all about the food

This restaurant has some of the best Fried Rice. Their Cheese Dungenous Crab is awesome. Most reviewers want atmosphere to go along with great food and low price. That's not going to happen whether in Chinatown or anywhere else in Manhattan. Lower your expectation about the atmosphere and just enjoy the food.

    mediocre food, poor service

food was about what i expected, but service was absolutely subpar. hostess was especially rude, and the waitstaff was apathetic, even during a slow time.

Food is not bad. Service is poor.

I went for the third time a couple of days ago. 1. They wanted me to share a table with a stranger (a gentleman). I refused. There were other empty tables. 2. When I poured tea into my cup I could feel the hot water running through my fingers. I thought I accidentally poured it myself, but no, my cup was broken. I realized this moments later after seeing water coming out of the glass. I'm glad I didn't drink it yet because it might hurt my lips. 3. I ordered congee plenty of times and I could never finished it so I always got it to go. They would give me plastic box for it, but for some reason, that day, they put my congee in a coffee cup with hole on the top. I told them I want the box because I don't want congee to spill all over my bag. They said they will give it to me but I have to pay $0.25. WTF?? They never charged me before. Last time I went there was couple of months ago. I argued and asked what's up with that? The waitress then saw my bill and the amount of money that I paid for food and service. She was counting how much tip I'm giving them. Eww! I wanted to tell her to just take that quarter from the tip but I waited. The mean waitress who doesn't have nice attitude then said something to the manager and left. The manager, instead of listening to what I said, the manager told me to give them fee for plastic box. Now that's just bad business. He left me without saying a word in English only in Cantonese. People were staring at me but I don't care. Then the waitress came and gave me the plastic box, I told her, no thanks. That was it for me. I'm never coming back. I remember the second time I went there, they made me wait for 40 minutes for my take out congee and stir fry veggies. I saw they already put my food/order next to receptionist but didn't bother to ask me if that was mine until 20 minutes later. Don't these people learn manner?

love the congee don't like the waiter

We had a fantastic congee but the rest of the entrees never materialized, and that was after an hour. I am Eurasian and brought some friends from upstate with me. We never got the rest of our food after waiting 2 hours. However everyone else at other tables around us, got all their food and kept getting more and more around us. it was really upsetting. They are going to get sued if they keep this up. I love the congee but , I didn't care for the cold shoulder. And they should want new customers who live here in the city to be served as well as their regulars.

    Won't Go back for awhile

Took hubby out for a simple birthday dinner since we are celebrating on the weekend. Asked the waitress what kind of fish was in season and ordered Steamed Buffalo Carp, Soup based veggies and a hot pot. 40 minutes go by, veggies and hot pot are on the table, main course of fish still missing. Asked another waitress to check and she comes back and says another 10 minutes. Another 20 minutes go by, still no fish, asked the manager to check, and 5 minutes later, he says it's not written on your order. Manager is a nice guy, but those 2 waitresses are morons. Original order taker comes back and claims she was not our waitress, one who went to check on the order assumed that it was being cooked. Manager offered to cook the fish, we declined since our veggies are already cold and we really don't want to sit another half hour. To top off their classy act, they gave us the bill in full with tax.

    Delicious entree's

I eat Chinese food often so you can say I am a bit picky... although the restaurant's name is called congee... I didn't think the congee/dim sum was that great here... But I had a few dinner parties here before and the food here is delicious! All their entree's were good... I tired their softshell crab and it was very tasty... If you go in lunch time (look at the take out menu for lunch plate specials) you can order "rice plates" for only $3.00 a plate. The entrees for dinner run around $10 a plate but portions are decent sized because chinese people eat family style.

    Great Food Great Price

Food here was amazing. Their congee was an unexpected humongous serving for the price that it came at. Their main courses were even better we had a variety of dishes from scallop, beef, duck, tofu, frog, and all of them came out delicious. Would definitely go here again!
