Dry Dry Dry
First off, our waiter was an idiot, if you can't remember what to punch into the computer, use a pad and write it down. Don't come back 2 times to ask and still confuse the Chicken casserole hot pot with the frog casserole hot pot. Salt & Pepper Squid was fried tempura style, Why? Plain white rice was undercooked and the spare ribs in special sauce was very dry. We waited 20 minutes on line for this? They brought sweet soup and fruit to the table next door with their check. We just got our check...

It's a great place...
I have to say that I disagree with the other reviews on this page. I really enjoy going to Congee Village. The food is great so long as you know what to ask for (ie- when a place specializes in real chinese things like congee, you should probably not order the chicken and broccoli). I suggest that if you order the congee, you get the duck and meatball- it is AMAZING. Also the Jellyfish and Sea Cucumber are great as well and they do a decent juicy bun (read: soup dumpling). I agree that the servic can be a bit slow, but then again, who really goes to a chinese restaurant on the lower east side for five star service. My suggestion is this- don't go there with high expectations of a gourmet meal. Leave the chip on your shoulder at home, have a sense of adventure and take it for what it is- a campy LES chinese restaurant with pretty damn good food I give it two thumbs up.

Very dissappointed
The food was subpar (I agree with the person below who said it was undercooked) and the service was among the worst I've ever had in New York. There are dozens of restaurants in that area with better food where I'd go to/order from before heading to this disaster again.

Poor Service
Their waiters need a lesson in manners. All of them didn't seem to want to do their jobs. We asked for forks / water, etc... and they showed us an un-happy face like we're bugging them. I must say the food was alright / cheap but they were in a rush to kick us out and there was no one on line. I wouldn't go back or recommend this place. There's just so many other places to try.

poor experience
Went with a group of 12. We had a reservation and the wait was still over 45 minutes. There was no communication about what was going on, and certainly no apology. When we were finally seated, it took them 15 minutes to bring menus and water. The food was subpar- the chicken was undercooked in two dishes and there was absolutely nothing special about the food. I have never posted a review on menupages before but had to because I was so disappointed with this experience. At least it wasn't expensive.

Go only if you have a party of 8 or more
My friends and family have always raved about the congee at this restaurant. Apparently, that's the only thing that decent about this place. I decided to bring a friend along to try it out. This place has very limited seating for small parties, so being a party of two we were forced to take the only table in the corner. Not only did it take the waiters 30 minutes to even acknowledge our presence, but when asked about how specific dishes were prepared "Buddhist Style", they did not know how to respond. The food is cheap for the price you pay, but you get what you pay for.
