Maybe second time is a charm
I went to Colors last summer and thought the food was good but not great. After shopping for lighting with a friend on bowery street we decided to check it out again last Saturday. The food was awesome! I had the shrimp with green goddess sauce it was absolutely incredible. For an entree I had the hanger steak. and it was melt in your mouth delicious. We're actually going back tomorrorw night for a friend's birthday. They told us they have a new chef and it definitely shows. They also have upped the ante with the cocktails, we ordered colors cocktails and after a few were feeling very, very good. Happy to see this a restaurant with such a good cause doing better. The place wasn't packed but it was definitely a buzz even the music was better or maybe that was in my head from the cocktails.

Not Very Colorful
I wanted to try Colors for months now, since I read that the worked had been from the displaced WTC restaurant and wanted to show my support. After theatre at the next-door Public last night, my friend and I tried it. Colors was a "drab" experience. First of all, there were only two other people in the restaurant which gave the dinner a very lonely feeling. Eerie, almost! Second, we were seated at a very small table, even though none of the other bigger tables were used the entire time we were there (no other customers). Service was amiss. They brought us the wrong drink order to start. It took a bit of a long time for them to take our food order, even though they were not at all busy. The food was not a good value, too pricy for the quality. My fish was actually cold. I wanted to show my support for the restaurant, but sorry to say I will probably not be back to Colors.

Loved it
My girlfriend and I come to NY often and we have loved our experiences at Colors every time. The staff is very friendly, the food is excellent, and the ambiance is great.

Excellent New Year's Dinner
We were hesitant to spend our New Year's Eve dining here given the reviews; however, we were not disappointed! The menu was simple, yet not boring. It's refreshing to finally see a menu that isn't overstimulated and reminiscent of eating at a diner. We thoroughly enjoyed the tapas. I was almost too full to eat my main course, but my salmon mofongo was so delicious that I polished it off. My husband has the duck and raved about it. Our friends were also pleased with their meals. The presentation was pleasing and the atmosphere was relaxed. We never felt rushed or neglected. The staff was friendly, attentive and accomodating. Eat here!

Don't Waste Your Time
I went here with my husband and in-laws thinking it would be a good neighborhood establishment. The menu was extremely limited and they were out of half of the items. This is supposed to be a worldly restaurant and there was nothing about the menu, service or experience that represented this. There were maybe 3 tables occupied and the service and food were substandard. We couldn't wait to get out!!

They Don't Know What They Are Doing
We were a bit disappointed in the physical space which appears elegant "Art Deco" on their website. Worn floors, a crummy Ladies room and small tables with a few Art Deco touches. But the food was the real disappointment. The waitress started off by telling us that 3 of the 8 entrees were not available due to "menu in transition." No chicken, no duck, no scallops but "the goat is fabulous tonight." No thank you. We decided on the pasta only to be told "oh yes, that is not available also." The samosas we ordered as appetizers were so incredibly spicy as to be inedible. The rest of the meal consisted of good quality food (the lamb, the pork) but prepared in a very boring way. Would not return here.

Five Things I Love About Colors
1. Desert: Why save the best for last? The Molten Chocolate Cake: It's one of the best in the city. The inside good just melts in your mouth. It's served in a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. The Cheese Cake: Dense, smooth, delicious. Best I've had in a while. And The Donuts: Fun to eat and relatively light. 2. Menu is anything but Boring: Nothing on the menu is typical. Every dish offers a fresh twist on restaurant favorites. Many of the dishes combine unlikely, but tasty, ingredients, like the Smoked Tuna with crispy taro chips (highly recommended!). 3. Lots of Vegetarian Options: The Arugula Salad and House Salad were a good starter. I also recommend the Risotto and Flat Bread. 4. Great Service: The waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable about the wine list. 5. Good Ambiance: The atmosphere was spacious and well designed. It's a large space, so your not on top of other parties.
