Okay, I've tried the Moqueca Stew and the Shrimp Baiano. The Moqueca Stew was really tasty, filling, and reminded me of a home cooked meal. The Shrimp Baiano was not good, watery, and just not appetizing. The real winner is the famous BANANA CREAM PIE! I've ordered the pie and only the pie for delivery before. It's light, fluffy, and creamy filling is mixed with fresh banana slices, a crispy light flakey crust AND a bit of whip cream on top. It's sinfully good. Treat yourself.

I used to enjoy going to Coffee Shop, but unfortunately my last two experiences have been increasingly less so. While the food remains good, the service is some of the worst I have seen in the city. Slow and unattentive waitresses and day bartenders and Extremely Overeager Busboys. My friend and I had not had our appetizer for five minutes and still had half left on the plate when not one, but three different employees tried to take our food at three different times. We felt the push to turn over our table even when there were plenty of other tables for waiting customers. I work in the restaurant business so I am understanding of certain happenings, but this is not the experience I want when trying to relax at a meal. I recommend the management relax and stop breathing down their employees necks to rush tables...it comes off as greedy and quite tacky. I wanted to give Coffee Shop another chance, but after a second bad experience, I believe my mind is made up.

Coffee Shop used to be a really good place to go in Union Square, but while the food still is good, the service is less good and it is so noisy you can't hear your companions. Also, I could not agree more about their seating policy. I have never been able to get a table at off hours when I'm alone even though there are many empty tables all over the place. They have never given an acceptable explanation for refusing to seat me without a long wait. Totally unacceptable.

Subpar, tasteless food (shrimp baiano dish), good location, good alcohol, loud/dark venue like a club. Since the food is poor the price is not worth it.

While I've eaten here before and enjoyed the food well enough (usually breakfast), today I walked away. At four o'clock, I asked for a table in the front since there were 6 or 7 open and no line for a change. I was told they couldn't seat me at any of those tables, as they were all 3-tops and over. Management needs to understand the concept of flexibility. At 4:00 on a Sunday afternoon, your rush is over. Your restaurant was, in fact, empty. Another restaurant got my $60 today instead of you.

...at about 1:00am and I have no friggin clue whats open that'll serve actual food in the area. My boyfriend is starving (and grumpy) and I am too. Thats what Coffee Shop is for. Its open to something like 3:00am on Sundays? It's not all that fantastic - its way too loud and the waitresses are so thin and trendy I could cry - - but my chicken soup was really tasty (although it needed salt) and paos are semi-decent. Don't order the cuban though - it was very normal. So go if you need a decent nosh late at night and aren't that picky.

For some reasons I just love Coffee Shop. We had this wonderful asian waitress, she's probably the best server I've ever had in my life! I've been there so many times, other servers were nice too. Hey dude, if we are nasty customers, you are expect to get NASTY services too! I am always nice to them, and in return, the servers are always the sweetheart. Don't hate them because they are beautiful.
