    Not great, not bad

Overall, my experience has been not bad. Got seated pretty quickly, the food was good and did not break the bank with the check. This is "The Coffee Shop" and I ordered a coffee and instead of bringing the usual pot, I got just a cup. Which was not a problem because I figured I would just get a refill. Then it turned out they were switching menus, and "could not" give any refills on coffee because of that. The sucky part is they charged me the same price as if I had the pot, so I was charged $2.50 for one cup of brewed coffee. The place was busy but not packed to the seams. I was not planning to hang out for a long time anyway, just drink my coffee and run. I am usually a 20% tipper and accommodating customer, but my tip reflected my feelings about that situation. The lemon viniagrette was good, and so was the roasted poblano tamales. I guess I'd go back because some parts I liked, but I did not like that. If it happened again, then it would be over for me for sure.

    Most overhyped place ever!

This place must only stay in business because of its location, because the food is bland at best and the service is the worst I've had in my life. They probably get people in for the brazilian food, though what they serve is the furthest possible from brazilian cuisine. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere , anywhere, else.

    when nothing else is open

food's ok but nothing you'll ever remember for being anything but generic. rosemary french fries were the best part or the meal. service disappears for extended periods. outdoor dining can be fun except for the constant honking and occasional motorcycles. not the best experience in the neighborhood but open when other places aren't.

    Prepare for a wait

It's an outrage to charge 8 dollars for a bagel and cream cheese. It's also an outrage to wait 45 minutes for mediocre food. Not recommended.

    Unclean Dishes

Great cobb salad! Too bad my water glass and coffee mug both had food stains - yuck! Desserts are highly overpriced and disappointing. The chairs are also awkward - it takes effort to sit up and reach your food, like you're a kid eating without the booster seat for the first time. NEXT!

    decent food, nice decor

I went there at 6PM on a Wednesday night- there were plenty of tables and I was seated in seconds. The service was friendly and fast, and the food decent. The Brazilian steak sandwich wasn't incredible, but hit the spot- and the herbed fries are a nice twist. The real treat here is the -decor- ... this is where models go to wait tables while waiting for their big break. The downstairs lounge is very swank--I highly recommend that for late nights. bottom line- Coffee Shop is worth checking out, just not on a date.

    Delicious famous Banana Cream Pie!

Okay, I've tried the Moqueca Stew and the Shrimp Baiano. The Moqueca Stew was really tasty, filling, and reminded me of a home cooked meal. The Shrimp Baiano was not good, watery, and just not appetizing. The real winner is the famous BANANA CREAM PIE! I've ordered the pie and only the pie for delivery before. It's light, fluffy, and creamy filling is mixed with fresh banana slices, a crispy light flakey crust AND a bit of whip cream on top. It's sinfully good. Treat yourself.
