What's all the fuss about?
I don't see what all the fuss is about. I think The Coffee Shop is great! I've only been there for Sunday brunch (twice) and both times we were well looked after by the gorgeous staff, the food was great (I had the Norwegian eggs benedict both times - delicious), the music was groovy and the place had a really fun buzz about it. If it's really that mediocre then how come it's always packed?

never again
service here was rubbish. needless to say tip was non existant. chattering amoung each other and not paying attention to their tables. it was not even busy.

So what..
Food here is not good..so what if the waitresses are good looking, cause one day they'll be just as mediocre as the food..

What happened to the customer always being right?
Last night I decided to give the Coffee Shop one last try. Once again I am utterly disappointed. I met a friend for coffee, and was seated at one of the back restaurant tables. When we only asked for coffee and nothing else the hostess came over and insisted that had to order an appetizer or we had to move to the back room on the other side of the restaurant. There were about a dozen open tables. We reluctantly followed the waitress around the restaurant to the back room which was once again almost empty. She lead us to this table with tall stools in the very back by the exit. When we tried to move to one of the many unoccupied tables.. she informed us that we were not allowed sit there.. it was reserved for people ordering dinner. When I explained how absurdly ridiculous this was...she gave me a lot of attitude and told us we had to sit at the table she showed us to. Out of frustration i say one swear word and she flips out and says that she wont put up with an attitude and is bringing over the manager. At this point, we look at each other and decide that this place isnt worth it. What ever happened to the customer always being right? You would think that in this economy with businesses and restaurants floundering, they'd be more compromising. Needless to say, I will never step foot in that place again.

salad came with an extra
At my sunday frequent. Didn't make a scene, server could care less, giggled about with another co-worker. Manager did not even come over too apologize. They didn't charge me for my salad and drink, but should've comped the whole meal. whatever....

See and be seen, with mediocre food.
Coffee Shop is infamous for beautiful servers (or at least they think so) and mediocre food. Union Square restaurants in general are overpriced, with substandard food and massive crowds. Coffee Shop doesn't live down that reputation, but at least it has eye candy and prime view (especially outside, on a beautiful day) to compensate. The food is typical diner style: burgers, salads, wraps, plates. Not fantastic, and not terrible. Given the location and whatnot, prices aren't exorbitant. The servers and hosts kind of act like you should be grateful to grace this restaurant's presence. But the place has been here forever, and so-so food and waiters with attitude aren't going to sink it. Just know what you're getting yourself in to, or make a detour to the Village (East or West) for much better choices.
