you must check out cocoa bar if you haven't already. i've been there several times always to leave very satisfied. they have some of the best dessert options i've seen in the city. i haven't been disappointed yet.

the new chocolate line is Deeeevine! i nibbled on an apple, raspberry, bourbon pecan, cointruea, and a honey vanilla (yes, 5!) and we shared a cake that was too good to describe but it had marzipan in it (i'm a marzipan lover!). i've never seen a chocolate cake with marzipan in it before. for unique products that are top notch, cocoa bar rules! i wish they served cocktails in the brookly location like the ones they have in their manhattan store ;(

So maybe you have to wait a while in line. Big deal. I've seen the staff deal with some needy park slopers in a nice way. They will make your half decaf soy half-mint-half-banana latte with 7 shots of espresso, it will taste wonderful, and it might even have a cool picture on top of it. They remember my drink every time I come in, my questions are never left unanswered and the cakes there are amazing. The service isn't "slow." They aren't standing around while you wait. It just takes them a little more time to make the perfect drink, which always looks like an intense process. If you get a chance, try the "chocolate flight." The girl working the last time I came in recommended it. She insisted if I liked dark chocolate, I would love it. She was right! Once they get their liquor license back, I cannot wait to try it with a glass of red wine.

On those rare occasions when my husband and I can get a sitter, we love to do it up at the Cocoa Bar. We could linger for hours over the port-soaked figs and divine wine pairings! Even solo, I thoroughly enjoy this place every time I go...the people at the counter are very knowledgeable about just what you might be craving. The young man that has waited on me now a few times has been unfailing in his suggestions, whether it be a quick cappuccino and a homemade marshmallow, (yummy) or a hot, super-rich Chai tea, delectably complemented with a caramel, dark chocolate truffle. Anyway, I could go on, but you really should make this place a stop on your commute to anywhere!

this place is fantastic. there is something really great about the atmosphere. its really nice but not super trendy or pretentious. the staff is not into that "i'm too cool for school" attitude that you find in a lot of NY placed. and the desserts are delicious (funny about the last write up with the staff member saving a piece of cake for him/herself!). how could they stand working around all these delicious treats all day? best part- i've never seen stroller moms or whiny kids running around as you would in most park slope places.

We dropped by last week for a slice of Red Velvet Cake. There was only one peice left as it was late in the day. (Well it could not possibly be 2 peices as was not very big). The staff member then proceeded to cut the cake in half, giving me a thin slice & putting the other piece behind the counter for the staff to eat (another staff member confirmed this in front of me). I don't want to sound greedy but I did not think that this was appropriate behaviour.

I recommend Cocoa Bar. I have some mixed feeling though. I used to LOVE this place and for some unknown reason, it just hasn't been the same since last November; The friendly workers developed more attitude. I'm not crazy about the coffee, but the desserts and chocolate are amazing. A bit pricey for a daily visit, but good for the occasion. Good for a laugh watching the mom's drop $10 for a hot chocolate and cupcake for their 5 year old's breakfast.
