Not recommended
The sushi is NOT good, the salmon and tomato was actually disappointing. The black cod had a fishy smell and the s'mores had zero flavor. Everything else was just average, including the crowd. The drinks were good though and the servers were nice but not fully attentive as they should be. It also annoys me that parties of 2 can't sit in the main dining room, just the lounge area - it makes me feel like a walk in although i had a reservation. I dont recommend this place

surprisingly good food
I am always skeptical of new restaurants deemed "hot" and i was a little dubious when i walked in to a very loud and busy bar area, but we had a great meal. the menu is fun and varied, with a appealing options for almost any eater. excellent salads (kale caesar and the "paper cut") some delicious and creative sushi rolls, and great small plates (chicken lollipops, steamed duck bun) the back room was much more quiet than the front bar, and is a beautiful room with a high glass ceiling, and a great feel. loved the place, great overall experience.

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful
The Good The Asian/American fare at CO-OP is impressive (although, it fell just shy of expectations, given all the recent hype). The salads and sushi appetizers were a unique mix of classic Japanese and contemporary American. The paper cut salad and chicken lollipops almost make you forget about ordering an entree, but then you would miss out on the miso black cod, which is tender, sweet and melts in your mouth. The desserts were "eh", so you're not missing much if your entree fills you up. The Bad There is a classy way to get me to spend more $$ at your restaurant. Watering down my drinks and charging me for an extra side of sauce just is not the way to do it. Although my server was friendly and made some good recommendations, I really did not appreciate my server attempting to "up-sell" me all evening. (This gets annoying very quickly) The Beautiful The decor is inviting and chic, the atmosphere is energetic and the crowd is trendy and young. If you want to have an intimate conversation, this is the wrong place for you. If you are into people-watching and upbeat music you'll adore this place. Overall A fun experience and good food but the staff could use some development. P.S. Dear CO-OP manager, If a patron in your establishment says that they don't think the $13 (4oz) cocktail that they received is what they ordered, don't get snobby and insist that they are wrong. Simply apologize, take it back to the bar and bring over a new drink. I'm pretty sure that is what the hotel & restaurant management handbook would suggest as well.

Great new restaurant
Read about this restaurant in the press and must admit I was doubtful because of the "trendy" factor. With that said the restaurant really isnt like most trendy spots. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and I must say for the most part very attractive. But what will have me coming back is the food. Everything I ate from the CO-OP Roll (spicy tuna with rock shrimp tempura on top) to the steak was super flavorful. My favorite part if that they have new style sushi similar to sushi of gari and sushi seki downtown. I love these spots but there is no where to get that style of sushi downtown. I got the salmon tomato shallot, tuna tofu, eel avocado, and yellowtail with black pepper. The sushi was super fresh and the sauces made it so i didnt even need soy sauce. they also had one of the best chicken wings i ever ate. I would highly reccomend this spot if you're looking for a top notch group dinner or want to make a night of it. I hope they can keep it up.
