As the prices increase, the service decreases -- spotty and at times not very pleasant. $13.95 for a hot open turkey sandwich with mash and stringbeans and the turkey was plain deli slices. Staff is new and not very pleasant.. Cashier does not even say "thank you." I go there occasionally because of it's closeness but will be going elsewhere from now on. Too bad, I used to really enjoy it.

The city diner is a nice place to eat in the actual restaurant. The in-house staff is ver nice and accomodating. However, the person who answers the phone to take delivery orders is very impatient. He refuses to make accomodations and tries to get you off the phone before you have even finished placing your order. To add insult to injury, the delivery takes way, way too long compared to the competition in a neighborhood filled with excellent delivery options. It is also overpriced for diner food.

This is good, straight-forward diner fare. Fairly varied menu--most of it works as average or better-than-average diner fare. Maybe a little more expensive than an average diner, but pretty much anyone should be able to find a niche in the menu that fits their expectations. Their burgers and breakfast menu work best for me--good burgers, good value--nice bacon cheeseburger, my favorite fries in the neighborhood. Sausage and fries with black coffee is a breakfast gluttony. Have also tried their rigatoni (fine), fried chicen (fine), chili (not so good), nachos (bland), ensalada caprese (bland), and once even had a late Thanksgiving dinner there when travel plans fell through---insanely generous portion, but the quality was below-averageish. Desserts, in all frankness, are mostly to be avoided. I've had delivery from there over the last five years, and have ordered often enough to've experienced both their good and their bad moments. Good is the standard--usually receive an order in 15-20 minutes, though on a bad night it can run 45m-1hr. Have experienced the occasional missed item, or the occasional lost delivery guy. But way more often than not, they get it right and get it delivered fast.

I think the reviewers with a bad delivery story had an unusual experience. This is good diner food and I have ordered from them dozens of times with no problems. Although it will sometimes create problems, I am grateful for the work of those in the city who are new immigrants who don't speak English. Another good thing about City Diner is that they are efficient with packaging for takeout, less wasteful than many places. My son eats the chicken souvlaki often, which is good and well-spiced. And the nice and efficient guy on the phone calls me "honey," brightening the day a bit.

How long do you consider a poor delivery time frame to be from four blocks away? 45 Minutes? 1 Hour? Well City couldn't manage to deliver for 1 Hour and 20 Minutes! I recieved a phone call from the lost delivery man 1hour after I ordered, and he was given the wrong address and was lost. He couldn't speak english and I still don't know how he finally found the right address. Needless to say the food came cold. My burger was burnt to a crumbly crisp and everything else was soggy and unappetizing. City may be a nice place for a in-diner meal ... but they can't seem to manage the delivery option ...
