Good food, good value, fun (if slightly worn) art deco interior. The service is quick if occasionally spotty. But overall, exactly what I expect and hope for from a neighborhood diner. Glad it's so close to my apt...during stress times it becomes my second kitchen!

I've been ordering once or twice a day from City Diner since my oldest daughter was born 22 years ago. When I call, the people who answer the phone recognize my voice and say "14A?" The deliveries come quickly and the food is hot and excellent. My kids love Haagen Dazs ice cream, which is what CD serves, so sometimes we call just to order that. I love their coffee, and when I'm away it's one of the NYC things I miss the most. Best items for take out are anything breakfast, soups, burgers, ravioli, tom turkey dinner; the grilled fish can be surprisingly good. Now that my kids are older they like to hang out at CD in the wee hours of the morning (It's open 24/7). It's a safe, well lit place to be at those hours, and the staff is kind to the kids, so I'm delighted they have this option. CD is a friendly community center for the Upper West Side. I never fail to see friends and neighbors there, and know we all benefit from this wonderful place.

go before 11 am and get eggs, bacon, homefries, toast, coffee and orange juice for 6 bucks.

I'm surprised at the number of "bad" reviews this restaurant got. The food is quite good...very good for a diner. Yes, the restaurant is very crowded...but that's because the food and the prices are good. Service could be better some of the time, but it's good enough for me. If I wanted "super service" I would have to go to a "fancy" resaurant...this is not a fancy restaurant, it's just a very good one. And that's good enough for me.

I order takeouts from them alot and they're quick. The only problem is the person answering the phone is unnecessarily gruff.

I had dinner here on a Sunday evening with my husband and four year old and I thought it was great. It was clean, friendly and the food was good and I liked the variety. The service was exceptionally nice. I really thought it was a great diner. The food was "diner" quality, but there were a few items on the menu that were a little different which was nice. I would definitely go back

I went there recently on a Sunday morning with friends, and we were appalled at how dirty this place was. The floors look like they haven't been washed in a month, the table was sticky, and the men's room was flooded due to a backed up toilet. The best part was that there were women waiting to use the men's room b/c their room was in even worse shape. I told the manager and he seemed disinterested.
