This used to be the best diner on the upper West side, but it's changed in the last two years. They forgot how to cook.Try Café 82 or the New Wave diner.

I was born and raised in NYC and can say that this is one of the best diners I've been too. The prices are standard Manhattan prices (pretty high, but oh well), and the food is great. Really nice salads, burgers, eggs, etc. The service has always been solid, and it's always been a really nice, really New York experience. My husband is a vegan and really likes their veggie burger. He usually hates diner veggie burgers, so that says a lot. Yummy!

I have been coming to City Diner for about 2 years now. The service is friendly and well, the food is always excellent. With this economy the pricing is good.

I have lived on the upper west side for almost 10 years and have been (rather was) eating at city diner the whole time. They used to have the best burgers around- but must have changed suppliers a few years ago and they got hit and miss (more miss-and greasy) Now I am getting half cooked cold fries, incorrect orders all the time, and just consistent poor performance. If you go there everyone is nice and you can send things back but I usually get delivery. I order a chicken salad melt sandwich (open face) and got a closed cold chicken sald sanwich. Tried again another day- asked for no tomato (after they SPECIFICALLY asked me if I wanted it and not only did I get tomato I didn't want but onion also... and more raw fries after asking for "well done" fries (an attempt to get them at least cooked) It is sad to see a once great place getting more expensive with unappetizing food? Poor business model if you ask me.

Would have been nice to know that the 'scoop of chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce' would be $6.50! when i called back, they said 'we only have one size.' fair enough, but let someone who only wants ONE SCOOP for a child know they're about to pay more for that than a sandwich.

The food and service at City Diner, once good, has become progressively disappointing and more expensive. I was very careful to ask if they had Carrot Cake and to reconfirm that I wanted it when they said yes on a delivery order. They sent Plain Cake, the order taker had the nerve to say that’s what he thought I said (when I was very careful to ensure that they had it and repeated the order 2x). He then said they were out of Carrot Cake and he would take it back and give me a refund, but the delivery guy never returned. Equally disappointing, my chicken souvlaki arrived cold and hard. For one of the most expensive diners in Manhattan this is not acceptable.
