    French Froids

Live two blocks away, and have been eating here and ordering delivery for 10 years. Service and quality sort of ebb and flow, and I really hesitate to complain, because after all it's just a diner, and on the whole this place usually manages to do well enough on the things that I'd order from a diner. But after the last 2-3 deliveries, I gotta say something. I patronize this place primarily for burgers & fries, or burgers & onion rings, and the last few times I've ordered, the fried things have only been about half-cooked. Is there a problem in the kitchen with the deep fryer? Is the kitchen staff turning over so fast that they can't train a fry cook? I just had to finish cooking an order of 2/3-fried french fries. The time before that, it was an order of raw-battered onion rings. If you're eating in, you can send it back to the kitchen, but for delivery, you're pretty much stuck unless you just really want to stand on principle. But you still end up hungry. I'll take a ding once in a while on miscooked or poorly cooked food from a diner, but when it becomes the exception rather than the rule, things get iffy. Delivery from City Diner, for me at least, is getting iffier and iffier.

    Got overcharged

Went here after standing at times square all day on NYE. my deluxe eggs and sausage, bacon, eggs was to be $8.95 and I was charged $9.95, lumberjack breakfast was to be $10.95 and got charged $11.95. it would have been nice if the menu stated you got charged for sodas refills. phone must have run 1000 times while there and nobody ever answsered it. those waiting in line should be asked to close the door - as it was cold at 2 am and i was freezing sitting inside eating.

    Charge extra for everything

My husband loved this place; I didn't, now he is changing his view. They charge for refills on soda (not a problem, a lot of places do), but they also charge for iced tea refills! That is something I have NEVER seen before! On weekends, they only have the "brunch menu" and with a set price, including a drink (alcohol). We went before liquor could be served and were still charged the full brunch price. People are not that friendly either.

    Fallin' Fast

I order from this diner all the time. The last 5 orders were wrong. Well-done fries, please? soggy and pale; no onions in salad? more onions than anything else. and their cookies are stale as can be. if it were inexpensive food, i might forgive, but it's just money for nothing lately. the quality of the food is getting worse by the week, and they just can't get an order right. take out is handled terribly, while in-house eating is still okay and more careful. but i feel as though i've wasted hundreds of dollars in poor-quality food and incorrect orders over the past few months. i think i'm done.

Oh how the mighty have fallen

Wow...this place used to be great. Now? Microwaved waffles and pre-cooked bacon for an exorbitant price tag.

    loved it!

Im from England and when I visited New York in February '11 I came across this diner and for the whole 4 days I stayed in New York I had breakfast here everymorning, the pancakes were lovely and the services was fast. The whole of my college group who was on the trip (around 30 of us) ended up eating there towards the end cause it was the best place around the area we were staying. Highly recommended and also very friendly people.
