We made reservations at Citrus for New Years Eve for 8pm. When we arrived we were told we were 'checked in' just notify them when everyone was there. The last person who was missing was just parking the car. We were seated at 8:30pm in the basement where there was no decorations or ambiance. Literally felt like someone's house basement that we had been banished to. So much for getting dressed up to go out. We promptly ordered our drinks and food. Appetizers came out pretty fast (10 mins later), i would say they were pre-prepared as they were barely warm but not too bad. Then came the LONG wait. No one checked on us, more tables filled up as we sat waiting, they ate, they left and yet we still didnt have food. We ordered 2 sushi platters and 2 steamed bass, so nothing that needs time to cook. Finally we got a hold of the bus boy to ask what is going on and where our food is since our waiter disappeared as well. Needless to say he forgot to put in our order, not to mention our table entirely. Oh did i mention it was 10:15PM! So our waiter finally comes over, who is less than sincerely apologetic, blames his cook and expects us to wait even longer till it comes out! So as we are still waiting, we are getting more upset (and i do not know anyone who isn't extra grumpy on an empty stomach!). We decided that we do not want to wait for our meals and ask for the bill. He brings the bill, no discount, no apology! We pay and leave at 10:45PM and are never going back! So much for a happy new year!

so nothing special
With so many fabulous restaurants in the city (especially in the west village) I have no idea why I gave this restaurant a second chance. The appetizers were nothing special, the halibut over cooked - the waiter dismissive. The food is so so-so in a city with so many more fabulous options. A waste of time. But if you have a thing for sweet fru-fru drinks they have a nice selection but it's really the type of drinks you would want at the beach not the UWS.

Awesome!
I took friends from out of town here and we were all really impressed. All four of our dishes were superb and the service was wonderful. The combination of Latin and Asian flavors is really unique and delicious. I am already telling other friends that they definitely need to check this place out.

Best frozen margaritas in town
...and their best dish is the salmon with pomegranate sauce and cauliflower/potato mash.

amazing
I've lived in New York six years and been on the UWS for four. Have never written a review before, but felt inspired after my incredible experience at Citrus Bar & Grill. Friendly, well-knowledged staff and DELICIOUS food. One of the best meals I've had in New York. The Zen rolls are absolutely delicious, as is the margarita chicken salad. Could easily frequent this place once a week and have already raved about it to all my friends.

pushy
ive been to citrus several times, its become more of a place to go when i dont feel like being creative. i live in the area. i sat down at 630 with one other person, it was very empty and we got our menus right away. after less than 2 minutes, the waitress came over and asked for our order, we werent ready yet. but then she asked 3 more times after that and even interuppted our conversation! big pet peeve. i had to ask for the warm salsa and chips which im not sure but i always thought it came right when you sat down. the food was good but the staff is pushy!

Fair fare; nothing sublime; but always fun
A 10+ years UWS survivor that's a solidly above-average, fun-vibe (casual, busy enough to be not dull) neighborhood-y place with fair fare, an impressive tequila selection, above-average design, cavernous dining room acoustics (i.e., when crowded, it usually very loud), workable decor, clean and spacious bathrooms, and serving and host staff that are reliably friendly--though the quality of individual servers can vary quite a bit. The dishes are Southwestern inspired, never spicey (for better or worse), and tending towards the sweet and--well--citrus-y. (The tuna dishes can be overly sweet, for sure.) The steak is solidly above-average and never--in my experience--a risky choice, though, again, some will find the sauces too sweet. Virtully everyone I've been to Citrus with can't keep ther hands off the chips and salsa, the latter of which is, not surprisingly, sweet-ish compared to most salsa, but not too much so, and pretty addicting. The margaritas are a big part of the restaurant's niche. I'm enough of a mixology snob to virtually never order a frozen margarita (I've certainly had them ordered for me or handed to me at enough gatherings and casual restaurants in my life), but the frozen margaritas are Citrus are genuinely exceptional. Potent, sweet-but-not-too-sweet, and thick. With rare exceptions, the food always comes quickly. The value is best with the entress, not the appetizers or desserts. I know that there's more than just tequila-consumption that's contributing to the fact that though there is absolutely nothing about Citrus that's sublime, I've always had a good time there. Citrus knowns its niche and works it well.
