The menu selection was fabulous but the waiters were not in the least interested in helping to explain selection. They were too busy staring at the diners to determine who was more worthy of their attention. Obviously we did not deserve their attention. The service was absoultely absymal and the waiter that served us had the audacity to inform us that service was not included in the bill - what service? We would have gladly given a substantial tip, as we have at many other restaurants in NY, but the service was so disappointing, it wasn't worth it. Having travelled extensively around the globe and dined in a wide variety of exclusive restaurants, Cipriani's needs to brush up their service and attitude if they want to maintain their so called image - they gave us the impression that they were just a dressed up local Italian diner trying to being something they're not. The food was really not that great - the pastas we had were so overdone, it was almost like canned spaghetti. As overseas visitors to NY, Cipriani's is one place we would not be recommending or returning to again. Very disappointing.

The service is unparalled, the atmosphere chic and elegant, and the food is all fresh and beautifully prepared. Try the spinach/bacon/mushroom salad and lamb chops or baked ham taglialinni. But you'll probably want a drink or two to gulp down the bill - the amazing atmosphere and service allows Cipriani's to get away with $20 salads and $5 sodas.

Ordered two salads and soups and the bill came to more then $100. If you want to save money do not order a $5 soda.
