Not recommended
Didn't even try the food after the extreme rudeness of everyone starting with the host who totally messed up our reservation. We made a quick exit vowing never to eat at any Cipriani establishment. We are visiting our favorite city, Venice, in January and looking forward to NOT going to Cipriani's!

ugh
Honesty, I dont know where to start! Downtown Cipriani was just a terriable experience. My partner & I went for a nice Saturday dinner & boy was I wrong. First of all, the place is so small & you feel like the table next to you is right on top of you. Our waiter was not the friendest person in the world, when I asked him to please explain a few menus choices I had, I feel like he was getting a bit annoyed but, hey I dont speak Itlian & I needed some help. Let me just say that my dinner tast like ravioli from a can....ughhh just nasty!! For a $35 plate I was expecting something more tasty!!! To top it off when we went to pay the waiter said that our debit card wasnt going thru when I know for a fact that there was enough money on it. What really pissed me off was how the waiter came to the table & spoke loudy & the table next to us just looked at us. I was so upset & so was my partner. I decided to go myself to the register. When I did I had like 2 Mangers come up & start saying "oh sorry for that". i was so pissed off because I knew that our card had enough money. Go somewhere else if you want a nice dinner & let me add the chairs were so uncomfortable! Just a bad experince with this well-known restuarant.

Wannabe scene
This isn't a restaurant as much as it is a scene. The food sucks, but it's full all the time because people want to be seen. If your into that sort of thing and want to meet other wannabe's then go for it. Lots of euro-trash and models. I just don't see the point of paying exorbitant prices for bad food. So many other restaurants in nyc with good food and a good scene.

I am puzzled
Food was poor, tasteless, no presentation. The china was probably the most subpar I have ever seen. The glasses of wine looked like they are serving kids. Honestly, this is New York city, known for its great food. I am puzzled how this restaurant does so well. I sent my food back and didn't another meal. Salty and cold, and I like salt but it was truly unappetizing.

Great place If...
If you like paying exorbinate prices for minimal portions and service with the attitude and promptness of a disgruntled DMV clerk, then you'll love it here. Why some people working for gratuities presume it is in their best interest to show complete disregard to the point of professional negligence towards those who they are expecting to contribute to their income will always be a mystery to me.

just to be seen
On a Friday night at 9PM the place is jammed. The lights are bright (in order to "be seen") and the service is slow so that you just can spend your time staring at all the models and europeans that walk in. As for the food, it is fair. The tuna tartar was a good appetizer but the main course branzino being $35 and just a piece the size of your hand with nothing else on the plate is a complete waste of money. Go for a glass of champagne, admire everyone and then go somewhere else to eat.

whats the big deal?
My husband and I went here when the wait at Balthazor's was too long. It was recommended by a New Yorker as his favorite - pleas-s-s-se? The service was good, but the atmosphere was not much to speak of, tables were on top of each other, the food was ok at best, and it was ridiculously overpriced. If you want great food, come to New Orleans, we need the business, and you'll love it!! And, "no" we are not still underwater - residential areas need a ton of help, but hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas are up and running.
